I probably should not mention the Medieval Knights anywhere near where they actually have courses on Medieval History. After all, nowadays the Chivalrous Knight is every bit of a contradiction in terms as the concept of a Noble Savage, due to new research into that period.
Still, it is really interesting to think of all the Literary Motifs that Moderns are too cynical to believe in: not only Chivalrous Knights and Noble Savages, but also Utopia, the Golden Age, and the Great Chain of Being itself. It is really sad that most moderns, in their cynical way, do not have an appreciation for them anymore!
