Yeah, the site is poorly maintained/updated and complaining about it seems to fall on deft ears. I don't fault the Mods for this, for typically the Mods don't manage it and can't make the fixes. The Admin is the only one that can keep it up to speed. My read here is that the forum is a low priority for the Admin.
I get frustrated with it too, but have just come to accept/expect WP to be technically crappy and stay on because of the unique population.
Neither the moderators nor site admins (Me and Cornflake) can do anything about the site problems. Only Alex has access to the site software to fix the problems. The site is gradually dying through his neglect. Unfortunately much of the code for the site is poorly written and unstable so tweaks and changes can have unpredictable effects and further destabilise it. Alex said a new version of the site software is under development by an external software company but that was some time ago and frankly I'll believe it when I see it. That isn't to say it won't happen but ...
In the meantime the site problems are likely to gradually get worse and worse. The big problem is the huge number of posts in the site's database and there are too many users accessing the database. The server cannot cope with the load. Alex has done some things to improve the situation e.g. by using a faster (more expensive) server and also caching the pages via CloudFlare but even those actions aren't a fix and the site continues in its downward spiral as the database increases in size.
I really hope Alex / the software developers get their fingers out and get the new site software finished and up and running; because sooner or later I can see the site collapsing under the load or more members leaving due to all the ongoing faults and error messages. At this rate the users will have migrated to other autism / Asperger's forums before the new site software is ready. Assuming it ever will become ready - I've got doubts.
