My friend likes Taco Bell and I don't. He says Popeyes is good, Is it?

There's a second one that's opening soon close to me

It is a matter of personal preference.

Personally, I like Popeyes.

My typical order is a spicy chicken sandwich. If I'm really hungry I also get a mac & cheese.

I prefer to eat the food while still at the restaurant, to ensure it is warm.

Popeyes have some of the best sauces IMO.

Me & my parents love that chicken from Popeyes  I've seldom been able to have it since I moved from Louisiana to Vermont 13 years ago because there's none in Vermont :( My girlfriend wishes there was one here too. A couple years ago my parents started going to Popeyes about every week because a new one opened closer to them. My parents like Mexican food as well but they do not care for Taco Bell. I don't really like Mexican food though so I don't like Taco Bell.

There are three of them in Connecticut near the infamous I-84 I-91 interchange in Hartford CT.

There was a day when I was not at all happy with Popeyes. I like it the rest of the time.

On that day, I was going out of town for the weekend and a friend at my destination asked me to pick up a large box (12 pieces or so) of fried chicken at Popeye's since the one in his town had closed.

So I picked it up an started driving on my two hour trip.

The smell of fried chicken can really get to you after an hour or two. I don't know the fried chicken employees handle it. After less than an hour, I really wanted to stop and dump that fried chicken into a trash can.

Of course, that would have been the case for any fried chicken.

We used to have a Popeye's Pizza that was very popular but I don't think you mean that

In this case, Popeye's is "Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen", a Louisiana style fast food place that concentrates on fried chicken and on fried shrimp.

For me, the nearest locations are now about 100 miles away.

They have a 9 piece chicken drumstick box with no sides for for $17.99 at their nearest location. However, I can go to a grocery store 35 miles away and get a cooked to order 10 piece chicken drumstick box with drumsticks noticeably larger than what Popeye's for $7 to $9, depending on the day. They aren't as good s Popeye's, but they are quite good and far easier on my budget.

Fast food is becoming so overpriced that I see little or no need to eat fast food any more.

I never tried their shrimp & I don't think my parents have in many many years if ever. My mom fries seafood a bit including shrimp but she never fries chicken except for occasionally chicken strips. If there was a Popeye's around here I probably would try their shrimp. Their biscuits are really good as well. Some of the locations fry turkeys around Thanksgiving but those are special orders that have to be made in advance. I've had their turkey a couple times at family functions on my dad's side. I heard the cost was very reasonable but that was a decade ago but I would expect their turkey to still taste just as good.

Almost every time my parents have gone there in the last couple years they used coupons or Popeye's was having a special. That can lower the cost a bit. They got coupons in their mail after the new location opened & coupons are also put in the mail for my grandma's house. My parents quit getting the coupons in their mail but the coupons are still left in my grandma's mail which is only a five minute car ride away. My parents & other family on my mom's side are in getting ready to try selling the property so my parents might not be getting the coupons much longer & then they would probably go a bit less.

It seems it's all spicy hot cajun stuff, which means I wouldn't like it.

And their commercials are awful, with people who can barely talk.

A Popeye's opened up where I live, which is odd because we have at least three other places nearby that sell chicken, but the non-spicy hot chicken is really good imo. I just wish they had gravy that isn't spicy hot and gave me butter to go with the biscuit that comes with it.

We hear the name Popeye and we automatically think of the cartoon sailor, but I read that it's actually named after some fictional movie or TV detective, which is just weird. No spinach in the restaurant as far as I know.

My girlfriend gets their mild chicken because she has gastrointestinal problems. I used to get the mild when I was a kid because I didn't like spicy quite as much then.

Their commercials do seem kind of racist with African Americans using very improper English. Were they founded by African Americans :?:

we don't have Popeyes in Australia. Curious if they sell anything with spinach?
