Do you know in what circumstances you got items that belong to you? Are you always able to recall the circumstances of getting those? I do. Every time I take a look at any item in my room, I know where it comes from. Actually, the only item I can't remember where I got it from and when exactly, is my plush toy - a pink hamster standing on my shelf.

"This small decorative lamp adorned with a rose pattern is a gift from my aunt who gave it to me when I was a teen for my taking care of her guinea pigs when she was out during the summer holidays".

"This troll doll is from my high school friend".

"I bought my Frankenstein book copy in a second hand bookstore".

"Those mini Tarot cards were once added to a magazine".

And so on.

Do you have it like this, too?

Yes, I think so. I have always remembered where I got each thing, even though there are quite a lot now. I also have that collector gene or whatever it is, so am kind of interested in certain things to begin with.

But something else is that I seem to never really forget certain things I have lost that I wish I still had. Like an original Apollo 13 mission patch my uncle that worked for Grumman gave me, or three dimes (coins) that an elderly neighbor gave me saying he had held onto them in his recent major surgery and wanted me to have them. Also a few special childhood toys that were just amazing for the time (Especially one called Robot Commando.)

Yes I am like this too and can also locate most items in my home extremely quickly as I have a photographic type map in my brain of drawer contents and such like.

Same. I am the 'Finder' in my house. I can usually tell people exactly where something is, as long as I have seen it at least once.

I should have added I can do this for my parents home too. They often telephone me to ask where an item is. :)

I'm practical, like wearing the same clothing, don't like decoration & my main interests are things on computer like music & vids I pirate so it shouldn't be too difficult for me to remember where things came from sense I don't have too much stuff.

I can remember where most of my stuff came from, and sometimes other people's stuff as well.

Exactly, same here.
Most of the time I'm used and abused (aka, appreciated) for that trait, but, sometimes it irritates my husband to no end.

We were coming back from a trip out of town. In order get into the secure carpark, we had to type in a code that was written on a card issued by the machine when we left. I asked my husband to get out the card. He insisted that I had it. I said, no, dear, it's in your wallet, which you put in the inner zip pocket of your backpack.
'Sure it is. Just check your wallet first.'
No, dear, it's not in my wallet, it's in yours. You took it from me as I held the gate open, you took your wallet from your pocket, folded the card in half and stuck in the left liner, beneath your debit card. Only the last digit of the code was visible after you folded the card, it was an 8.
He sighed, took off his backpack, pulled it out... and, sure enough, just where I said it was.
Why that was irritating or insulting? I don't know.

 I feel your pain. Its not easy being the Intergalactic Lost & Found. People can get very flustered very fast when they can't find something. But they don't always realize they are not giving you a whole lot of information to go on. :?

....another 'use' I have apparently is being the keeper of tv remote control codes. The code that allows you to operate satellite tv and your tv with a singular handset. :D
