Last night I was sitting in my room watching TV. My brother came in and took my headphones.
My brother has a habit of taking my stuff. I got a bit annoyed with him and said things to him like "you can't take my headphones" and "your a thief". My brother then got agressive with my attitude and after small argument he sat down next to me. I got irritated with him invading my personal space and I said "you going to give me another lecture about my lifestyle". This remark i made got him mad and he shoved me in the face (open handed). He then walked out of the room. I was furious by him hitting me and ran after him and we got into a fight.

Thankfully my parents came in to separate us.

My dad later explained to me that he told my brother to borrow my headphones. My brother was in agressive mood that night after a few hours of work and he hates that I am a spoilt brat who is long term unemployed.

Who do you think was in the wrong overall? I am 25 in September and my brother is 23.

It seems a little strange to me that your brother would be asked by your father to borrow your headphones. He has a job, he can buy his own.

Nonetheless, aggression is really not the way to go about asking for things, and neither is invading personal space and shoving your hand in their face. He's 23, he can get over himself and buy his own headphones, as well as take "no" for an answer.

I'd try not to be aggressive with him, though. Violence from him won't solve problems, so why would it do anything for you?

23 and 25... I thought you were 13 and 15. That's sad you needed your parents to separate tou.

But he is in the wrong for not asking you or explaining that your dad told him to.

Your brother was in the wrong because he took your headphones without your permission, he invaded your personal space and than he tried to run your life for you. He was wrong to do that. The next time he gets physical with you, tell him it hurts and you don't want to hurt him. Do something you brother wouldn't expect you to do instead of getting physical.

There's shared blame here. Your brother should have told you right away that your father told him to use your headphones. Then you were wrong to use the "thief" word. Both of you were wrong for arguing over it. If he sat next to you knowing how it affects you to have your space invaded, he was wrong. He was especially wrong to mush you in the face. Then it escalated into a fight. That takes two angry people.
