What is the farthest you've ever walked?

Today I decided to walk to my aunt and uncle's house to get my stories that are on their computer because my story site was down. They live about a mile and a half away so I decided to walk that far to get to their house than taking the bus. Save a couple bucks and get some exercise. I have walked that far before twice when I was still living with them. One time it was because I missed the bus downtown so I took another bus and got off and walked two miles because I did not want to wait 40 minutes for my bus. This happened at night after I got off at work, back when I worked swing shift.



I remember in my teens trying to walk home from school because I missed the bus and also walking home because softball practice got done early and I didn't want to wait because my parents weren't home so I walked and my legs would get tired before I would even make it home so a stranger would stop by and offer me a ride and I would take it. We only lived a few miles out of town. So I would say I maybe walked four miles the furthest. Riding my bike to town doesn't count.


I'm thinking about walking downtown sometime.

Now I have to walk all the way home again and let my legs freeze and have my skin itch.
Oops it's getting dark out, better run. It's getting colder.

I once walked from Las Vegas to Carmel. I don't know how far that is but it took about two months and I went cross country not following the roads.

I walked from Enfield to Kensal Green (both in London, but miles apart)

Wow that was fast. I wasn't expecting two replies already. My aunt offered me a ride and I took it. It wasn't that cold out and thought it would be since it was starting to get dark.



One of my online friends walked from Missoula, MT to Flagstaff, AZ in 1990 and it took him three months he said.

I'm not really sure. I pace A LOT through out the day, and I used to take walks everyday.

When I used to go to public school I would walk across town to the library everyday. It took ages for my mother to let me do this. It's only a 15 minute walk at the most, but she didn't trust me doing so and now I see why. Everytime I'd walk I'd get so into whatever I was thinking about I'd forget I was walking and wouldn't pay attention to my surroundings. I can't wait for when it gets warmer, I would really love to take walks at the nearby state park (no traffic to worry about =p).

I once walked from Buffalo, NY to Niagara Falls, Ontario, which is about 22 miles. The trip took me over 10 hours, including a couple breaks. The whole thing a long story, so, I will just say that someone abandoned me there, and I walked until I recognized where I was.

Not that long.. 6 hours maybe, wandering aimlessly and then downtown and back one night.

I think about eight miles. When my car broke down during one college year, I attempted hitchhiking the eight miles to college and the eight miles home. And if my attempts failed, and they did often, I walked. We didn't have bus service back then.

My dad did that for a while when we lived here. Last time it was in 2001 or 02.

In a single day? As in 1 24-hour period?

I would say approximately 12 miles, if we're talking about a single day. Maybe as far as 15 miles. Walking long distances brings me great pleasure, to the point where I space out into day-dreamy bliss and neglect to notice how much ground I've covered.

I once walked 22 miles, I counted the mile markers as I went.
the cops kept hanging around keeping others from being interested in giving me a ride.
well actually, I just screwed the cops daughter, he was not happy with me and was running me out of town.

Not counting bushwalking (hiking) trips, my longest walk in a single instance was hitch-hiking to the next town, walked 60km (38 miles) before my first lift.

I don't know the exact distance but I can tell you that it took me just over 8 hours: My then-BF at the time and I got into a fight (as usual) and I got out of the truck and headed back to the the house. I (wrongly) assumed he'd come after me knowing how far away it was. He didn't. I guess that if a person walks an average of 4 mph, I walked something like 30-ish miles back to the house. I was incredibly pissed and sore by the time I limped into bed.

I once walked from the top of the Grand Canyon, to the bottom, ate lunch at the river, then walked back to the top. It was 8 miles horizontally, and 1 mile vertically, then back again. I almost didn't make it back out before sundown. My friend took a picture of me as I was walking back, and it was already dark enough that the camera auto-exposed the picture for a good half second, but you can't tell that I didn't stop walking.
