Dear Jeanne Harmon,
Thanks so much for your quick responce but with bitter tears am typing this today,my heart is heavy of sadness and my soul is dying. l read your mail and l decided to reply with immediate effect so that you can know how serious l am with what l am saying.
My father was a very rich Cocoa Merchant here in Cote 'd' Voire and he was a very popular man before he died,so when he was about to die he told me that he had some amount of huge money in his fixed / suspence account here in cote d voire and he also told me that he wanted me to go abroad and study because l am a very brilliant boy. He also told me that l should seek for a foreign patner that l should send the money to because for the fear of his family member and after the money is confirmed received by my patner in oversea l should then go there to continue my education while my patner should invest the money in a very profitable business of his or her choice since l know nothing or less about investment and the profit must be shared between me and my patner.
Dear Sir, l am appealing to you to please assist me so that l can smile again,l am writing this mail to you with full of bitter tears flowing down my eyes because l can say you are the only one that is left for me in this whole world.
Just yesterday my late fathers relative came and threatened me that they will kill me if l dont give them the document of my late fathers money so l went to bank where the money was saved to inform the bank director and the bank director told me that l should transfer the money abroad with immediate effect as instructed by my late father so that this poeple will not be able to kill me as they killed my Dad,the bank director said he will do his best to make sure that the money is transfered abroad,l need someone who will be truthful and loyal enough so that l can send the money my late father left for me to, once you agree to assist me by this time next week l will be waiting to hear a good news from you that you have received the money into A NEW ACOUNT (please open a new account to avoid mistrust). Please l will be waiting to hear from you if you're really interested so that l can send the contact of the bank where my late father saved the money before he died to you so that you can requst for quick transfer requirement and information which you will use to receive the money my late father left for me and please when you receive the money please l will like you to keep it secret for the safety of the money.
Sir, feel free to call me anytime anyday my mobile number is +225 0405 5856.
Sir l will send the bank address to you and how you will contact them if you really want to help me in transfering this money abroad, now l want you to help me sir and l will like you to be checking your email box regurlarly at least two times daily if possible.
Thanks so much,am waiting to hear from you quickly.
Martins.

I haven't read the middle of it, but it sounds like a scam, like those one's you get that are 'apparently' from Jamaica.

I think the fact that he called you sir is a giveaway, although I've made that mistake before!

I don't think so. There are lots of cocoa merchants in Cote D'Ivoire who have large "suspence" accounts.

I have gotten an email quite similar. A few years ago I received one from a man who claimed to have hit the jackpot in some kind of lottery and needed to dispose of the cash. He said that people were threatening him, so he had to get rid of it as soon as possible. My mother had emailed a reply (she wasn't going to call the number that was left because it was halfway across the world XD) and we never heard back..It had said something about creating a new bank account and such..

People who make scams such as those really have too much time on their hands.

My Hotmail account seems quite ample,
I’d never describe it as spam-full,
Only ever had one,
At the time it seemed fun,
So below I’ve included a sample:

“My name is Wilson Kiptobe,
My client he trust and he know me,
He lend me some cash,
To invest – he no rash,
I assist long time, bank of Nairobi

My client he very rich man,
To start he invest $50 grand,
By the time he took ill,
It become $50 mill,
Now he die and leave me no plan

I wish share this new money with you,
There’s only one thing you must do,
Give your details to me,
Bank account and ID,
And then we be rich man too

Please mustn’t take any longer,
As money it come out from Conga,
You must fast reply,
I tell you no lie,
Signed – King Winston Kiptonga

Sex, aeroplane, motor car,
Viagra, foghorn, drug, czar,
Swimming, cat, cheap,
E-bay, download, sleep,
Keanu, information, child, bar.”

So this e-mail I happily greeted,
With laughter that ‘Winston’ so feted,
Would spam me with these,
‘Account details please’,
E-mails I’ve promptly deleted.

:)

Had one of these myself. Scam, for sure. I politely replied that there were others who needed the money more than myself, apologised for their loss and signed off. They still tried again, and I did not respond again.

I used to get dozens of those at work. It's a total scam. Don't answer at all - it only encourages them. If they start on you, tell - um, depends where you are. In Canada we tell the RCMP. Maybe if you're American you might tell the FBI? CIA? Anyway they will know exactly what you're talking about and they won't be surprised. If you hear from these people again, please report it immediately.

Do the mounties still always get their man, even if he is a nonexistent resident of Cote D'Ivoire?

I'm sure there are several gay dating services that would love to use "We always get our man."

Here you go. It used to be Nigeria, but it's the same sort of thing, I think.

Werbert, in this case the RCMP never get their man. Or woman. Neither does Interpol. They need cooperation from Africa, which isn't forthcoming.

Some RCMP are women. I'm not sure what they always get. :)
