The chemicals that make our obsessions may be the same chemicals that make people fall in love.

You've got the gist of it.

It's sort of like being in love with an inanimate object, or at least that's how I read it.

And we CERTAINLY can become obsessed with others. But the problem is that we can also fall in love with inappropriate things; so when my wife told me that she loved me more than anything, she really meant more than any thing. There is an advantage though, in that real research requires one to fall in love with a subject which is not a human.

Ahh. But then how do we know if we're in love or just obsessed with a human?

If the relationship goes into "stage two" it's love. (Gets beyond the initial obsession for each other)

But what if it's just one person obsessed? and the other person wants nothing todo with each other? and they'll never get together? then is it love?

My definition of love creates a difference. I don't know if anyone else would find it useful. I love somewhen when I decide that I do. This always happens some time after the obsession happens. Once I decide though, it is irrevocable. I may not always feel the same, but they always have some claim on me, even after death (mine or their's).

Then it's a one-sided relationship I guess.

I think it's a crush then.

If it doesn't end then we get into stalker territory.
