I don't hate all of them. I don't like those "superior" types that have arrogant attitudes. Not just dentists but also other medical doctors. They are not interested in the patients' well-being. They are only making money. But of course there are plenty of good ones as well. The dentists that I've been seeing for the last few years have been really good people.

The only things I hate are the metal picks they use to scrub the teeth. the noise is loud and the vibrations are painful!

since almost all my teeth have amalgam filling, I've largely been spared too many more cavities so far, plus avoiding sugars is helpful.

I avoid going due to my extremely low pain tolerance. The only times I've ever seen a dentist in my adult life was when I needed a tooth pulled because it was hurting me more than the needles and so forth would.

I guess that's why I have six remaining teeth on top and five on the bottom with the molars having been removed first.
(Although nobody can tell when I have my binky in my mouth.)

I find the dental bill painful also, but in a different place. :x

I totally agree. If I can't watch somebody do a procedure on me, I get nervous. As far as hating dentists, they're only doing their jobs.

I think they get too much of a bad rap and most of them are not sadists who love punishing us for not taking better care of our teeth. A lot of non-educational cartoons, TV's and movies don't help, though. There was that dentist on the Simpsons who gave Lisa braces and showed her tools he had call things like the Poker and and the Gouger ...so she wouldn't be scared! The dentist in Little Shop of Horrors was a real sadist and would get high on his own laughing gas, and who can forget the guy on Seinfeld who converted to a Jew just so he could make Jewish jokes that offended Jerry, and then Jerry makes one joke about dentists and the guy is so hurt he deliberately made Jerry's next dental appointment longer and more painful. The dentist sobbed how high the suicide rate is for dentists and Jerry asked if that's why it so hard to get appointments, but I think they censored that part later.

Oh, and there's even a Far Side comic where a boy in a waiting room has just noticed his dentist is really an evil-looking, grinning monster about to put on a human mask through his door window just as the reception says he's next.

I kind of hated the dentist when I had braces but he was rough with kids even thou he was a kids dentist & he never let the parents go in too. He kept telling me to relax my lip & I never understood what he meant & he always complained about my teeth not being brushed well enough but the dentist I saw before & after I had my braces told me I did a good job brushing my teeth. I hated the experience of having work done in my mouth. I don't hate my other dentist thou I don't like going.

Nothing wrong with the dental plan or my dentist but they can be really crude when they don't want to take care of an infection, they'd rather you crawl out the surgery crying in pain. Don't even get me started on the reception.
