..from a job you're no longer happy with.

Haven't given my notice yet, but put the word out through contacts that I'm seeking a different & more lucrative opportunity.

Long story short: When I was hired over a year ago I was told I'd start at the bottom and be trained up on a more lucrative position shortly. That has never happened. Over the last handful of months I've made it clear that I need to be able to earn a decent income or I need to go do something else with my time. I made that abundantly clear the last 2 months. Recently I was told by 2 different managers that they didn't have a position available to move me up into... now they do, and they're interviewing new applicants for it.

I've been working far too hard for far too little money over the last year or so and have certainly paid my dues in terms of providing value to them. Instead they've promoted a few others and hired externally for all other jobs.

I'm done with working on their goals & need peace out pretty soon to be able to work on my own - which mainly includes earning more money in order to have the life I want & savings towards future goals.

And no, I'm not greedy or expecting to get rich overnight. I've been working for far too little money.. I made more money in a comparable position in the same industry 14 years ago.

I hopped over from my last industry to this one because it can be far more lucrative. The idea was to stack cash. But, since they won't allow me to have a position where I can earn a decent living, I'm moving on - and forward and up! Going back to the previous industry in a better role more suited towards the skills I need for future business plans ASAP. I've put the word out to a couple contacts and am going to make some online posts seeking the type of employment I'm after.. and as soon as I have it, peeeeeeace out.

As for the REAL reason they won't promote me: I do a LOT of different things that help keep the place going that no one else does. I was on the construction crew that built the building, so they prefer to utilize me doing maintenance tasks instead of having to hire outside contractors. I've proposed multiple times that I still do the repair/maintenance work, but that they allow me to work a more lucrative role for my other shifts so that I can earn a living. But I tend to get too good & fast at too low value of jobs & then get stuck doing them because they can't afford to lose me in that role. If I ever work in this industry again, I'll apply for the more lucrative spot and not even bother ever telling them I can do anything & everything else under the Sun... because then that's what happens - they rely on you to do everything else while allowing those with very narrow skill sets to work the money making jobs. Maybe some of you can learn from my career mistakes and keep your mouths shut and play dumb if employers ask if you're able to do things for them outside of the scope of your job.. "nope, sorry, I don't have any experience with that," instead of "yeah, sure, I can do anything."

Just thought I'd vent a little.. as well as end on a much more positive note than my whining above and say that I truly do feel rather FREE in the sense that I know I'm not a slave, I'm a free agent, and that I'm going to move on to a bigger paycheque as soon as I have a suitable offer. Hell, there's a chance I might even go work right next door to my current workplace lol. But yeah, I've already mentally checked out.. and it's so freeing. I have 8 months of free transportation (took an 8 month transit pass in lieu of scrap value when I scrapped my car via a pseudo gov't program) & I'm going to make the most of it by going to work somewhere where I'm earning a more stable, and sizeable, paycheque.

Blah blah - sweet, sweet, freedom is coming sooooooon!

Hmmm.. new boss wants to chat Monday. I'll at least hear him out.

Others are leaving. One is leaving to advance his career with an opportunity he can't pass up. Another, even more critical person, is leaving in 4 weeks due to.. disagreements with the owners who basically promised one thing, but are now renegotiating & the direction they're headed isn't what he signed on for. Makes me wonder how many other staff might follow him to his next role.. or how many might just go find something else if he's no longer there.

At this point, my loyalty and emotional connection to the place is pretty well gone. It's about money now. Either I get an offer to make as much or more money here as I can go make somewhere else doing something else, or I peace out and increase my income significantly. It's time for me to stop working so hard on their goals and focus on my own - and I am 100% prepared to walk and do something else, even if it means harder work outside in the rain over the winter.. I'm at a point where I simply need to make more money & that's the bottom line.

I can totally identify with the topics headline. I'm done with just about everything, and everyone. I think its why I have such an addiction to collecting rocks and gemstones. It's a satisfaction I haven't found anywhere else really, well except eating of course.

Hmm, I wonder if they even had promotion options for you when you got hired.
I've heard of companies hiring people like this to do much work for little money and just replace them every once in a while where they tell the same story.
