I can hear the buzzing noise and therefore will know that the TV is on even if the volume is off and there's no picture.

Used to, but I think it was more noticeable with the older CRT TVs.

I used to be able to hear those old CRTs crystal clear when I was younger. I can still hear them pretty well, but I also have a little bit of tinnitus now so the TV sounds blends in with that, also no one uses those CRTs hardly any more and I haven't really been around one that's on in the past few years. FTW the sound is from the coil that bends the electron beam, it vibrates ever so slightly.

I used to but with all TVs being flat screen, not anymore. Also the boxed one in my room broke so I swapped it to a smaller TV set we got at a yard sale and I can't always hear it because of the buzzing in my ear so they both sound the same and I think the buzzing sound is quieter.
