It sucks that my commie father keeps pressing me to shower every day. I explained to him that it's not necessary, that it's enough to shower every two days. But he won't listen, he keeps saying I have to do it and he doesn't even back it up. He is a brainwashed Bolshevik and I'm tired of his BS.
One day we were discussing whether or not people should have kids and he said that it's part of life and everyone should do it, that not doing it means derailing from the norm and is unacceptable. I can't believe this dumbass is my dad! I would move out but I'm financially dependent on my parents so I can't.
But enough about that. The topic is showering and why it shouldn't be done daily.

I can't read the article because I won't enable javascript.
But I've heard showering every day is bad for the protective overlay of the skin and oils in the hair.
I don't even shower every other day... only when I'm going somewhere special or can't take being dirty anymore.

I have keratosis pilaras as scrubbing my skin every day makes it look worse. As far as my hair goes every two days. If I wash my face every day I get breakouts.

So, I can go one or two days without showering.

Why I don't shower every day:

1) It's an extremely unpleasant sensation. Like insects crawling over my skin.
2) It drys my skin out and makes it itch. I don't see the point in stripping my body of natural oils and then having to apply a moisturiser afterwards.
3) I've read that it removes the protective acid mantle of the skin and makes you more prone to infection.
4) It's unnecessary. I can clean myself effectively with a few natural products without immersing myself in water.
5) It's wasteful. Many rural Australians are on tank or bore water. I'm not going to frolic around in litres of water when that's all I have for drinking. And bore water can be foul.
6) It creates more work. The process of cleaning yourself in the shower makes the shower dirty.
7) People can't tell the difference. My psychologist described me as well groomed in my official report and everyone knows professionals don't lie.

In my opinion, showering once or twice a month is quite enough.

Those points of view aren't just exclusive to communism. Plenty of Americans would say exactly the same thing

I shower at irregular intervals. Sometimes once every three days, while other times twice in a single day. Depends on the amount of physical activity I partake in I guess. I'd go on longer intervals, but I'd smell and I can't stand the smell of body sprays in general.

I would feel saturated in a layer of filth after just one day. My mood tends to get worse the longer I go without a shower. Showering on a daily basis for me is necessary, though I try to just have warm water rather than hot, shampoo my hair only once a week, and try to avoid washing my face everyday. I'll rub in some coconut oil if my skin gets dry and have shorter showers. I can only tolerate plain Dove soap, anything else makes me itch.

That's too seldom. I once went without showering for a week and my classmates had to stay five meters away from me. I'm an undesirable person anyway, but when I stink I'm even more so.

He isn't really a communist but I call him that because he has outdated values and tries to control my life.

Only starting in the 20th century did daily showers become a thing. Some kind of hygiene paranoia came into play, which also lead to unnecessary circumcisions. Showering is a difficult process for me and I need assistance. So needless to say the less often I have to the better.

I've spent enough years with abnormal trouble when I tried to shower every day I'm not going to skip a single daily shower more than I absolutely have to.

It depends on where you live and/or how you live.

If you live in a hot place where even the five minutes ducking in and out of air conditioned spaces can cause you to be soaked in sweat, a daily shower is a good idea because that dried sweat and bacteria can build up fast, causing bad smells.

If you live in a cooler place where you never really experience being overheated and sweating profusely, you can get away with fewer showers or baths, maybe just wet-wiping the parts most prone to needing a cleanup.

If you live an active lifestyle regardless of climate, and regularly run or work out, same as the first paragraph.

If you live a relatively sedentary lifestyle, same as the second paragraph.

Some people have sensory issues where washing too much dries out their skin and causes discomfort -- other people have sensory issues where not washing and starting to feel aware of sweaty places becomes something overwhelming and they feel relieved once they are freshly clean. I have both issues! I do love showers though.

Did you know that fast moving water, even that created in a shower, gives off negatively charged ions, which is the one that's actually known to be mood lifting? I have found for years that I have a response to the positive ions in moving water -- I even feel the different air/atmosphere in a produce section if they have those automatic sprays on the vegetables. Showers and waterfalls have this too. Interesting factoid.

I shower and wash my hair every other day. If I go for longer than that my hair begins to feel really disgusting, even in the long, cold winters we have up here. I used to bathe and wash my hair every day, but then it dried my hair and skin out too much. I seem to have naturally oily hair, plus it's very thick. Maybe I was a Newfoundland dog in a former life. :)

As for the having kids thing, that is absolutely *not* something a person has to do. Over seven billion people in the world, as if not having kids would automatically send us into extinction.
