For all WP-ers in New York City (& environs) , I want to comment about New York City (& metro area) newspapers , if only because , from a distance , it appears that the long-running " traditional #1 tabloid " , the New York Daily News , is rather shaking themselves apart !
Even as they evidently fire massive amounts of staff to try & survive , they are running a lot of ~ not just sensational headlines , that's normal for them , but weird , sensational , editorializing headlines , these headlinecs criticising the NRA (+ a little Obama on to-day's) - These headlines have gotten coverage on Yahoo! , I'm interested !
Sort of makes me want to be back home , to enjoy it on the newsstands :P...........

Were you originally from NYC? I haven't even heard of the New York Daily News before, though I have read the New York Times on occassion. There is only so much American news I can tolerate, too much insanity.

...The area/suburbs (Actually , my mother gave birth to me in a hospital in NYC proper , so , REALLY technically , I am a " native New Yorker " !) .
I believe the News' history is on Wikipedia...

I'm a native New Yorker who has lived there all his life.

I haven't read the Daily News in a while (because it's $1.25, while the Post is a buck).

I'll have to look into this new trend.

They don't sell it that much in Queens any more. They used to sell it quite a bit more about ten years ago.

There used to be a "New York" Newsday, too--but that was disbanded about 15-20 years ago.

...Yes , I remember the somewhat autonomous NYC Newsday having its plug pulled ~ After which the version of Newsday for outside of NYC , as far up into my Westchester as at least Croton-On-Hudson (which was the last stop on a Metro North line) was the Queens Edition .
Newspaper sales in general have obviosly gone way down , and Newsday is , after all , an outside paper even in Queens ~ Just the number of places you can get the San Francisco Chronicle here have sharply reduced in the same last 10 , anything else nevermind ~ So I suppose " LI's Own " may have rather retreated even from Spider-Man's borough .

New York Newsday was an excellent paper and it enhanced the Long Island editions. They still devote 2 or 3 pages of city news for commuters. National and International news is pretty much all wire service the last few years. Quite a downturn for a newspaper that used to win Pulitzer Prizes for non local coverage.
