im usually a great rockhound, and can tell but ive had it for years and i cannot figure out what it is. this is its natural color

My wild guess is pink quartz from South East Louisiana.

its not quartz i know what quartz is, and this rock is orange. its crystal structor is tabular

do you know where it originated?

do you happen to have a UV lamp?

i suppose it could be fresnoite

it's hard to see the color of it because it is reflecting light from your monitor

If it's gypsum it can be scratched with a fingernail.

something tells me that its not gypsum

does your crystal have a vitreous luster?

My guess is quartz too (but been a long time since I did geology [1st yr Engineering]) Quartz can be discoloured and form crystals like that.

It's almost definitely quartz. Quartz comes in a variety of colors, one of which is pink.

it is not quartz. jesus, i know what amethyst is, rose citrine, etc.. i even know about this stuff they try to pass off as "green amythyst" on the home shopping networks. hold on let me upload some more pictures

Did you try scratching it with your fingernail? It's gypsum if it is softer than your fingernail. It really looks like gypsum to me.

it is not gypsum, it is very hard. but flakey. for some reason
