I found this in Dictionary.com :

The word February comes from the Roman festival of purification called Februa where people were ritually washed. There is a Roman god called Februus, but he is named after the festival, not the other way around. Other months, like January, are named after Roman gods

March comes from Mars, the Roman god of war. June comes from Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth. July comes from Julius Caesar. August comes from Augustus Caesar. September comes from the seventh month in the Roman calendar, and so forth to December [ten]. Oh, and January comes from Janus, the Roman gatekeeper god.

Thank you! I used to know them but I had forgotten. Except for February, I never learned that one.

I can't remember where April and May come from, though.

I always thought March got its name because it was the month when soldiers would march off to war. And on April 1st they'd realize what fools they all had been. :P

Joking aside, this is pretty interesting. :)

Isn't March named for the God of War - Mars?

According to the internet, May comes from an Old English word that means 'might'. *shrug*
