I've also thought that people are required to burp. It's like passing gas. However I had a teacher who would tell the class that people don't actually have to burp and that it was a disgusting thing to do.

Then why are new parents required to "burp" their babies?

It thought it was ridiculous. However I once had this teacher who whenever someone in the class would burp and then say "escuse me". She'd say don't burp, that's digusting. They'd be like "I said excuse me". And she would say "just don't do it".

People shouldn't really burp loud in public. It's seen as being at least somewhat crude.

Yes, you actually have to burp. No, you don't have to be loud and obnoxious about it. If you burp slower, you won't be so easily heard. However, if that was me in that classroom, I'd burp as loud as I could just to piss that particular teacher off. What's disgusting about it? It's just gas coming out of your stomach. What's next? She gonna tell people they can't sneeze either?

Agh, trust me, it's required. I can't because I was born wrong and it causes all kinds of stomach troubles. I'm looking into having the reflex surgically corrected.
Perhaps the teacher was getting annoyed with kids deliberately making themselves burp loudly to be disruptive? It's generally considered bad manners to go around burping loudly in public of course.

One of the kids said to the teacher, I thought we had to burp. She said "no, you don't, do you ever hear me burp? Burping is rude and disgusting. Polite people never burp.".

My father belches constantly. I don't know why exactly, but he's been that way for as long as I can remember, but I find it disgusting and embarrassing and I don't know anyone else with the same problem. :(

I read that women don't burp or pass gas as much as men because we usually eat less. It would be humiliating if I couldn't hold it while in front of other people and I'd feel like I could never see those people again no matter how they reacted.

Not being in control of my body's more repugnant functions around other people is the worst thing ever. Seeing them unable to is a close second. It makes me feel so... human!! 8O

I also can't help but feel guilty about what the methane does to the ozone layer.

I have to burp after a meal. There's a difference between forcing a burp out to amplify it, and just burping naturally. Often a burp makes a sound for me, but not loud enough to be heard over other noise, unless you're right close to me.

I don't burp often, just when I've eaten a meal or drink carbonated drinks.

In some cultures, burping after a meal is actually considered polite. It shows that you appreciated the meal to them.

Yes. She was being irrational.

The only time I burp is after a meal.

This one time my chest was hurting badly for about fifteen minutes before I burped more loudly than I ever had before! Then I felt better. So I guess it was necessary for me that time.
