Heroes in Manga, Anime, and Video Games

What is, in your opinion, the definition of a hero, and are there any manga/anime/video game characters who could apply?

For me, a hero is someone who: 1) tries to change the world for the better in some way, 2) is kind and loving, and 3) heals/protects those in need of assistance, whether from a physical assailant, or from their own past trauma.

Manga:
Syaoran from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle applies to some extent, sacrificing his treasured relationship with his childhood friend Sakura in order to save her life, and later trying to save the entire universe from destruction.

Clare from Claymore also applies slightly, especially since even trying to survive in her world is admirable, as many just give up.

Tohru from Fruits Basket might apply, since she is always so kind and cheerful to everyone she meets, and gradually [almost single-handedly] heals many of her friends' wounds and trauma.

Anime:
Nagisa from Clannad, just by meeting the protagonist Tomoya and eventually marrying him, indirectly changes her own life as well as the lives of friends and family for the better.

Video Games:
Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockheart from Final Fantasy VII apply for me. Stocke from Radiant Historia fits as well.

I will likely add more.

Light Yagami from Death Note could arguably be a hero as he tries to protect the world from crime and thus change it for the better but his method is to kill every criminal, even those committing minor crimes. So in the end he comes across as an immoral moralist, if such a thing was to exist.

I like the unorthodox heroes of Gintama.
They have many faults and vices and weird methods, and sometimes the characters are not even very likeable but they have a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong underneath it all.
They seem more realistic and relatable for their many failings.
