This is a follow-up to my 1999 thread, as it focuses on the very next year, 2000.
----
The year 2000, like 1999 before it, was full of epic awesomeness for myself. I was 13 then.

I, like many of you, had those Y2K fears when it rolled around, but NOTHING! happened. Thank goodness. I told my middle school para-ed assistant Kim (who, sadly, died of cancer in 2012) that "Plan P" came into effect. Many years later, I can finally say what the "P" stood for in that thing: "Phantom". That's right, the Y2K disasters were meant nonexistent, a "phantom" of things, if you will.

That was when I really got into anime and Sailor Moon. Wanna know how it happened? I had gotten wind of a Sonic the Hedgehog comic from the previous January (one of their old quarterly Sonic Super Specials, this was the eighth one in question) that parodied Sailor Moon. It was around that spring that this occurred.

Also that spring, I got on ICQ, and started talking Sailor Moon and began recording the S-arc episodes that had been recently been dubbed into English (five years after the series first hit stateside) on Toonami (back when it had an afternoon block weekdays), and I even came up with my Sailor Moon/Buzz Lightyear crossover story idea (I was into Toy Story then), set in the S arc (a few months later, Buzz Lightyear's own series, incidentally, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, came out, and 14 years later, I refined the story into the fic that I created- it was also in 2014 that I got to meet some of the original English SM cast @ Anime Expo in Los Angeles. Good times.....).

I went to New York again in July 2000, and even saw my cousins in the Washington, DC area as well. I got into Toy Story and Back to the Future, and even had my parents buy me a CD copy of the latter movie's soundtrack. I still have that CD. :) Unlike the last year, I didn't get to see a baseball game- and, confession time: I wanted a New York Mets/Seattle Mariners World Series to happen, but the Yankees spoiled the Mariners' plans. Had the Mets/Mariners met that year, it would have been the first World Series between two expansion teams (we wouldn't get that for another 15 years, when the Mets, again, got to meet the Kansas City Royals, and we all know how that ended).

I also watched a lot of repeats of Bob Saget-hosted episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos, and even watched the Japanese news on TV, and anime on International Channel (which later became AZN Television in 2005, and went off the air in 2008).

You know, when I look back on it, the years 1999/2000 were truly years of discovery for me. It was also the last period in my life when I didn't worry about things in the world (the 2000 election notwithstanding). What I wouldn't do to have those days back....

Ah yes, the underwhelming millenium year!

I was pretty much 100% Pokémaniac at this stage. Collected the cards, played the games, watched the anime... I still remember seeing Giovanni out of shadow with his voice no longer distorted. That orange suit...

In 2000, I was working at my local newspaper.

I had a total of seven pets, six cats and a dog. Sadly, they have all passed on.

I did a humorous speech on Y2K in Toastmasters and it was well-received.

2000 was a horrible year. My turtle Nikita died.
I started and quit high school for the second time.
I spent a lot of time mourning and feeling bad that year.

It was quite possibly the worst year of my entire life, although there are so many bad years to choose from. It started getting especially horrible near the end as the holidays approached. I couldn't sleep at night, I was having anxiety attacks, I started getting sick a lot more, and my rages were at an all-time high. A week before Christmas I was kicked out of the home I was in and left at the hospital all alone. It felt almost as if my mother and everyone else no longer loved me, everyone I thought I could trust and depend on had betrayed me, and in their eyes I was nothing but a psychopath. :(

Ditto (see what I did there? huehue) for me save the cards. I still have a notebook of useless pokemon data from back when I attempted to reverse engineer the stat conversion equation.

The worst thing that happened to me in the year 2000 was my birth.

I was born in 2000. Other than that all I can remember is Milosevic being thrown out and George Bush being "elected."

I remember the build up to the year, 2000. I remember waking up on New Year's Day and nothing happened. How was that possible? I was pretty sure that the world was going to end.

my memory is bad, so i dont remember many things of 2000. i was 10 years old at the time, i readed a lots of child magazines with random curiosities, and i was feeling important at the time because i survived the 1999 to 2000 and i was feeling confused because even if i was in 2000 people sayed its still the 20th century. that dont make any sense to me at the time. also i was feeling frustated cause i could not express my feelings to the girl i loved, and neither even start a conversation with her cause she was so beautiful that i started to shake even only looking her at distance.
i have only a friend at the time, and some few relatives that i talked.
i was feeling frustated because my family even had the money, never didnt paid for premium tv with that childish channels with cartoon network, fox kids, nicklodeon, and goes on. i could only watch that kinda of show in my vacation when i was traveling to a person that has those channels. i was so obsessed with cartoons at the time, i just watched recorded vhs of the premium tv channels over and over again every single day... everytime i go back from school.
i was also obssessed with pokemon and digimon, mickey, donald duck, and disney movies. and i had a colection of pokemon magazines. thats bizarre to say but i watched the tv show at the time s part of digimon/pokemon pets and part to ship some couples that never comes out.
that was a traumatic year for me too because i was in a normal school, i didnt know i have autism, and i dont even know what autism was. in my school people call me of names that are used to call people autists but not using the word autist, but i did not know what they were talking about, or what i done wrong to be threated like that. i was called ret*d all the time. i used to go to school with fear every single day. i wonder why my parents always ignored that the fact that i was diferent from other people, and they deny this all the time, just for personal pride. they should put me in a special school, i would sufered less there. all the experience and friends all did in 14 years of study(from 4-18 years old) in average school, was reducted to just one friend, and he rarely visit me now! if i was in a special school i could make a lot more of friends that would understand me cause they would be like me. i hope some parents, and people that study psychology all over the world are reading this. if a boy/girl is unconfortable in a average school all the time, and they cleary are not happy, and you know that they are autists, dont force then because you are afraid of society judgment of your son/daughter are diferent(like my parents did), put then in a special school if they are not adapting.

What happened in 2012? All I remember was the world was going to end but John Cusack saved everyone.

well, i was thinking more about personal stuff, because that was one of my biggest "formative years", and the one with many sweet memories.

but...hm...obama's reelection was pretty important, good for some, tragic for others. first full year south sudan was an independent country. malala. the doomsday memes, can't forget those. hurricane sandy, the avengers, ray bradbury passed away.

??
