"etronan" is a conlang that i have been working on, on/off since mid 2013. one of the most useful ways that i have found, to pinpoint lexical and grammatical gaps to be filled in, is attempting to translate passages into the language. translating this was a nightmare at first, but as i worked my way through it and it became ever clearer what i needed to work on...it actually became rather enjoyable. word order is roughly SOV. verbs are inflected heavily by object, aspect, tense, person (somewhat...) and volition. usually not all at the same time. there are ejective consonants.

some important nuanced meanings may have gotten lost in translation but....such is life. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i've included a quick scribbling of the first translated line written in the two writing systems i have created: the top one is much more developed than the lower one. the "y"/ayin-looking letters are Ts.

this passage was sent to me by a friend, the original can be found here: http://allspirit.co.uk/hsin-hsin-ming/

I'm a conlanger too!

Is this a pan-Semitic language by any chance? I plan to recreate Phoneician as a modern language when I'm done with my studies, much like the Zionist linguists of the late 19th/early 20th century revived what had only survived up to then in liturgy as a daily spoken language suitable for all Jews. Looking into the Semitic languages, especially Modern Hebrew, will help me with this.

cool! curious, what kind of languages have you worked on or plan to work on? fusional, agglutinative, isolating...
mine leads towards agglutinative, but it would behoove me to introduce some fusional elements, lest my inflections become too cumbersome.

no, it's not meant to be a pan semitic language actually, but incidentally, i am studying hebrew at the moment (when i can) so i'd like to believe i know a thing or two about that.

i admit...i did steal the idea of word "roots" from hebrew and arabic and adopted it into my own creation. as those languages would have the root K.T.B/V for words relating to writing or scripture, A.T.L would be the root for words relating to "control" in etronan. in general, the shorter or longer the root is, the more broad or specific the concept is, but no idea if that's how it works in hebrew. also, vowels can be part of the root here.

also attempted to ape the "binyanim" system once, but that's become a relative feature now.

you have a very big plan...i think eliezer ben yehuda and his contemporaries would be proud. how do you plan to achieve this (roughly)?
