Shout out to Texans in the hurricane

We weren't really prepared. We were expecting a tropical storm and some inconvenient rain. Luckily my sister who lives in Florida called us and warned us to stock up on gas and water. We drove up north from San Antonio to stay with family in Kyle Texas but we're still in the way of it. The eye is apparently going to hit i35 and i37 after it calms down from a category 4 to a category 1 hurricane. They're warning everyone to stay off the highways because it'll be very destructive. Luckily still have internet and cell phone service. The preventative flood walls have filled up though and there's still plans for rain for the rest of the week so flooding will probably be a big issue.

We're safe for now. If you're also caught in the hurricane update your status here. We'll all be thinking of you. Put your safety and your family first. I have another sister and she is a first-responder. She's a nurse working in the ER so she had to stay in San Antonio to take care of patients. Thank you first-responders. Take care and thank you for looking out for others and keeping Texas safe and sound.

I have been through, Belle, Gloria, and Sandy none of those were close to a category 4. I have never been in a storm with close to 20 or 30 inches of rain. As much as you are prepared and knowledgeable, experiencing it is a whole different thing. The worst part is the aftermath. The adrenalin is gone, the media and the world has moved on and many have to live with the drudgery of no power, often in steamy heat, fighting with insurance companies, or worse living in some shelter with your home and job gone.

Thankfully all quiet here in Houston thusfar, but this is far from over.
