Is it just me or do some Autistics really love being shy?

I am extremely shy and I love it. Are there any other Autistics that are that way?

Yes, but its probably also why we like secure places. People are hypersensitive to stimuli and are unable to read the cues of others, so they get fearful. I've had people who I thought were close friends figuratively explode in my face.

This inability often results in conflict, where they question why someone's not paying attention or meeting their needs. Privacy and hiding give people with AS control over the environment, and shyness gives the greatest amount of control over interaction. It's philosophical position.

No, it gets way of interactions I want to have and makes the ones I do have painful.

Shy, withdrawn, aloof. Can't say as I love it. It's just the way I am.

I love being introverted.

I hate being shy.

There's a difference even though extroverts don't get that and NT extroverts especially don't get that.

Introversion is caused by me being aspie. Shyness is caused by my social anxiety :(

In case anyone's wondering. Shyness = fear of other people. Introversion = preference for being alone.

Good point, Tuf... it's the social anxiety that's the problem... I can go with that.

Basically I don't like, but the good bit of it is that I don't waste much time trying to interact with people I regard as idiots.

I'm not extremely shy but people think I am because of my quiet voice and withdrawn attitude. I don't love or hate it. I just wish people were more accepting.

I don't, I hate it - but then again, I have selective mutism on top of it, which is even more frustrating for me than it is for all the people who interact with me, most of whom think I just don't want to talk and am doing this deliberately, since I can talk just fine at other times

I am not exactly shy though it may appear that way at first glance. I am an introvert but I can communicate very well. The reason why I don't try to communicate so often these days is that I don't care any more. I don't trust others.

I really appreciate introverts and am proud to be one. Also, introvert girls are a huge turn on for me.

Same here but I'm also in my own world too much to really notice or care. Being shy does bother me if I have to make phone calls. I also feel anxious when I'm on very crowded buses that are very loud & have people standing over me or I'm standing within a tight group. I'm not sure if that's shyness thou. One doc report says it's agoraphobia, another says it's claustrophobia(I switched docs) but I think it may be Social Anxiety. Whatever it is, I take Klonopin before going out if I may be on a crowded bus & that helps.

I'm not really shy by choice, so I wouldn't say that at all.

Oops, it seems I mixed up my response. Your phrasing makes a lot more sense with what I meant to post in my answer. We prefer introversion, me personally because it gives safety and control, but most people dislike being shy, including myself. I want to be able to defend my rights yet keep my personal details from people who use them against me.

Aren't introversion and shyness two pretty similar things.

You should not do not hate being who you are.
