Any nonsmokers here who are/have been in a relationship with a smoker? And how does/did that work out?

I had a relationship with a smoker while being a non-smoker. I became a smoker for the entire relationship, lol.

That said, I haven't smoked a cigarette in years - I stick to tobacco-free forms of nicotine use. It's my vice, and I prefer not to get rid of it. I'm actually disappointed that taking bupropion for unrelated things, causes my nicotine buzzes to be less powerful. It's used as a smoking cessation aid, but I don't take it for that.

For non-smokers, I would advise trying to get the smoker into electronic cigarettes, nicotine patches, gums, or nicotine pouches. Anything that doesn't contain tobacco or carcinogens/tar is a huge improvement, and they will smell much better.

I'm a nonsmoker & my 1st girlfriend was a smoker. We were long distance so her smoking didn't affect me physically or anything but I tried to get her to quit anyways. I started trying to when we were just friends before we were a couple cuz she was wanting to give it up along with some other bad habits like getting drunk & doing drugs. Part of the reason I cared was because she was only 15. Another reason was because I had BAD anxiety & OCD worrying about things happening to her. I was 20 & she saw me as kind of a father figure cuz she only met her had a couple times so that was probably some of why I was able to keep her away from those things. My anxiety & OCD got worse & she fell into old habits with everything. We had lots of fights over it cuz I was having bad panic attacks & took things out on her. We tried to remain friends after the breakup but we kept having fights so that was that. I fell into a psychotic depression & spent the next 5 years seeing psychs & taking meds. I'm on anxiety & OCD medication nowadays & grew from the experience so things that bothered me about her like smoking wouldn't bother me nearly as much with my current girlfriend

I'm a non-smoker in a relationship with a smoker.
It is so hard to get him to quit. He won't even switch to e-cigs. I heard they're banning those in some places now, so they must somehow be more harmful than real cigarettes (although I don't see how).

My partner wishes he had never started smoking, but at the same time is afraid to help himself quit. I think he's afraid of the withdrawel, plus he has no will power. His unhealthy lifestyle does worry me, the way he's overweight, unfit, drinks and smokes.
