Update on upcoming move
I posted about an upcoming move last week, and am updating things now. My head is in a whirl. I was just at the manager's office Monday for the second time to finish filling out the paperwork for my new apartment. I had sold my old car to a relative to cover the security deposit. Due to health issues, including sleep apnea I'm not allowed to drive anymore anyway, and I wanted the car to stay in the family. It's old and needs work, but is still a good vehicle, so it's worth keeping in the family. The same relative took me to my appointment at the new apartment complex. Due to being on SSI and having no other income, I had to apply for a rent subsidized place, but is in a nice area, and is very well run, and the apartments are all very nice. Usually, there is a long waiting list, but I had applied for a handicapped apartment, and one of those came available shortly after I applied. They didn't have any other handicapped applicants ahead of me on the list, so I only had to wait a few weeks, instead of up to 18 months, or even up to 24 months, which is the usual waiting time for a regular subsidized apartment in this area. After filling out the last of the paperwork Monday, the manager gave me the key, and my relative and I went to take another walk-thru of the apartment. I had seen it once before, and taken a few pix. I took more pix this time, and a closer look at some of the features. The place is even nicer than I had thought after the first visit. It's a good thing we went to check out the apartment again. My relative had caught a stomach and intestine flu that's going around. Hope I don't get it. Anyway, he used the bathroom at my current place before we headed out on our errands, and then had to use the bathroom at my new apartment twice while we were there! I was glad that he had access to it, as he was really having a problem. It also gave me more time to check out the place, and to take more pix. The next few days are going to be very hectic, as he and another relative will be using their vehicles to move my stuff to the new place.
Between my regular health issues, and a bad cold I am still working thru, I have been too wiped out to do much of the packing, so my sick relative has had to do most of it. Besides the stomach flu he just got, he is also trying to get over a cold, but he doesn't have all of my other health issues, so he has more energy. I can barely keep awake due to my exhaustion. I was able to make a floor plan showing what furniture will go where, and was able to weed out what I'm not taking. The new apartment is smaller than my current home, so some stuff had to be voted out of my life. Most of the losers will stay here for a relative who will be moving in after I move out, but one or two items will go to other relatives.
I am looking forward to moving into such a nice, handicapped accessible apartment, with a much lower rent, but I do hate the process of moving, as it's very stressful. Staying where I am now has problems, tho, as the rent here is a lot more, although still a little lower than market rate, as I am renting from relatives. Also, this place lacks hadicapped accessibility features that I need, so I am willing to put up with the stress of moving, as long as I can move into a decent handicapped accessible apartment. The new place should work out well for me. I'm just not looking forward to the stress of the next few days.
Anyway, I hope the move goes well. ![]()

Good luck on your move to your new apartment.
Since you have sleep apnea, do you have a CPAP machine to control the problem. This link may be useful.

A very unique plan. As Dr. Paul Thompson wrote, "This is the very best paper on the virus I have ever seen."
Yes, I have a CPAP to help with my sleep apnea. The docs didn't like the poor results, so they added an oxygen concentrator to the mix, so that gets hooked into the CPAP, providing me with more oxygen when I sleep.
Got to admit, I'm not good about using the CPAP machine. Because all of my health issues cut into the hours available for keeping up with my interests, and chores, I tend to stay awake too long at the PC trying to keep up with sites of interest to me, and then I end up falling asleep and taking naps at the computer. These naps aren't as restful as sleeping in my recliner with the CPAP mask on. I'm going to try to do a better job of sleeping in the recliner with the CPAP set up this year. The rent at my new place is a lot lower, so I may be able to hire someone to come in occasionally to do some house cleaning. My new place also has a dishwasher, which was lacking at the old place. With two bad knees, and a bad back, it's very hard for me to stand at the sink doing a load of dishes, so they kept piling up. I also got in the habit of reusing dishes for a long time, and would keep the "current" dishes in the fridge to reduce germ growth, and prevent bugs and rodents. Unfortunately, I did have a few problems with rodents over the years, as my last place wasn't totally rodent proof. It is very run-down, but at least it provided me with a roof over my head for a long time. The new place is in great shape, and doesn't appear to have any access points for rodents, except the front and back doors. Can't totally block those off, but I don't go outside too often, so that will help.
Years ago, at my last place, some neighbors 2 doors down owned a dog and cat. When they moved away they took the dog and left the cat outside. I started hearing crying noises over several days, and finally saw her on my porch. I made the mistake of opening the door to check on her, and ended up with a flea-infested pet who wouldn't let me treat her with any flea remedies, and she also had 3 kittens behind my sofa. I was on a lower fixed income then, than I am on now, so I couldn't really afford her, or the kittens. I did eventually find homes for the kittens, but nobody wanted the mother. I was having trouble with the fleas, trouble with her fur making me itch, trouble bending over to pick up stuff she deliberately knocked down, trouble having her tackling my ankles, trouble keeping her off the counters and kitchen table, and trouble affording the cat food. After unsuccessfully to find a new home for her, I finally had to take her to the local animal shelter. The crazy lady there gave me a hard time, and then had a police officer come to my home. She had told him that I had abandoned the cat, implying that I had just left it outside the building. I brought it inside during open hours, and left it in her care, which I explained to the police officer, and I also told him about the fact that the previous owners had abandoned the cat, and that I couldn't afford to keep her. I was able to clear things up, but will never make any donations to that animal shelter, which I had intended to do once I qualified for SSI. At the time I was still in the appeals process, so I was only on state assistance, which was way too low to cover all my needs.
Anyway, I've learned to be watchful for critters when going in or out, as I am not up to having any more domestic pets, and don't want any vermin, either. I'm also going to spray pepperming tea around the exterior doors in the warm months to repel bugs.
I do like dogs and cats a lot, but can no longer handle taking care of them, so I make do by socializing with pets owned by family and neighbors. My new place allows cats and small dogs. The day before the move, I did another walk-thru of my new apartment, and had to avoid a couple of organic land mines (poop) on the front walkway. I'll be posting a full follow-up on my move this morning.
