I got one at the doctor's a month ago

A myth about flu shots is that one can get the flu from a flu vaccination which is not the case. If someone gets the flu shortly after getting a flu shot they were already infected and would have gotten it anyway.

Another myth is that if someone gets a flu shot and gets the flu that year anyway it means that the shots don't actually work. The shots aren't perfect, but the do largely decrease the risk of getting the flu. Typically if someone who got a flu vaccination does get the flu it is not as bad as it would be if they weren't vaccinated.

And yes, the shots can be scary for some people but they take only about a second. Better than having a flu that lasts for days.

I got my flu, pneumonia, and shingles shot.

I have not.

I've had diagnosed influenza several times including the "swine flu" version. I can see how people can die from influenza.

For the past 20 years, I have contracted the flu every time I have received a flu shot. Every year that I have not received the flu shot, I have not contracted the flu.

Yeah ... nothing to see here ... mere correlation or coincidence ... no scientific basis ... anecdotal "evidence" only ...

I am not getting the flu shot this year. I am also willing to bet (with my life) that I will not get the flu.

Everyone in my family has gotten a flu shot this year, me while I was at the doctor's for a sinus infection (since I didn't have a fever, they let me get it) and everyone else as part of their healthcare benefits from work. For what it's worth, none of us have had anything that we can definitely say was the flu for as long as I can remember whether we got the vaccine or not (though sometimes one of us will get a particularly bad cold, and one time I got something that made every joint in my body hurt that could possibly have been a flu-related thing).

What sort of symptoms to you develop after the flu shots that you've had?

I get the shot ever year but I usually feel like I have the flue for a couple days rite after I get the shot each year. I know I did not get the flue cuz it only last a couple days & it's always the day or so after I get the shot. Maybe this is why some people think they get the flue rite after from the shots.

Wait, Fnord, you didn't let them perchance give you flu shots from the vials with green stickers on them, did you?!? No, no no!!

Did you suddenly earn a medical degree that allows you to diagnose strangers on line?

There are numerous and varied symptoms exhibited with influenza. I was curious as to what symptoms you experienced specifically.

Like I said, F L U   S Y M P T O M S ! !

Do I have to spell it out for you? Fine.

• 101 to 103°F fever
• Chills & Hot Flashes
• Feeling Tired & Wrung Out
• Head & Muscle Aches
• Nonproductive Coughing
• Profuse Sweating
• Sore Chest & Throat
• Stuffy / Runny Nose

So, Doctor, what teensy little detail are YOU going to pick out to say that I did not have the flu?

Keep in mind that REAL doctors have examined me in person and diagnosed me with the flu each time.

Amateur know-it-alls ...

I'm not certain, because I'm not a physician, but I think touchiness can also by a symptom of influenza....

One symptom does not a diagnosis make.

Sigh, TEA LEAVES! How many times do I have to tell you?!

I am first in line for immunization shots. But the flu is not caused by bacteria but rather a virus. The few times I had flu shots, they were fairly ineffective. So for the past 10 years I have stopped getting them. I developed a formula of essential oils and use that instead. Sometimes I get the flu and if I catch it early, I apply the oil and it is gone in a couple hours. If I don't apply it early, it will take a day or two to work its way out of my system.

I get the flu shot every year. First time I had to have it. I was heading to the High Arctic for 6 months. Take that up there & the whole camp would come down with the flu. I had been volunteering at Community Care, where they help older people. I'd hate to pass something on to them.

I also had the two-shot Shingrix vaccine for Shingles. Hope I never get that!
