Yesterday a few of us had messages from a Catherine55 asking us to email her. I replied "Can't we chat in here?" and I had no reply. Later I found out others had had the same mesaage. Why would a person want to be emailed? Why not talk in here? Trolls?

The troll is in the eye of the beholder.

Anyone who sent an email reply would likely have been flagged as a "live one". Then they would likely receive a few more emails from "Catherine55" (real name: Mbabwe "Prince" Nkomo, or something like that), pledging her undying love and likely requesting a little financial help for a sick relative.

More like scamming than trolling.

Catherine55 was as likely to be an "it" than a "her". Such generic messages with verbatim web-addresses ("wrongplanet.net" rather than "WP" or "Wrong Planet") are more than likely automatically generated by spam-bot software, not by the spammer in person. I moderate on another forum where we get tons of spam-bot generated posts all the time; some of them have AI good enough that you need to see more than one example to be sure that the member isn't genuine.

A scary thought. Even I could be an AI bot... Naa! Maybe not!
