just out of interest, what would you do if you met the people who played people from your favourite films, shows, or played in your favourite bands, and they turned out to be right liars and people who simply portray one image (as if they are good, cool, moral, decent etc) while being the opposite?

When I found out that someone I thought was okay turned out to be a complete jerk, I stopped supporting them and their music, shows, and the like, entirely. It was embarrassing to me, in retrospect, that I thought any of these show business types were anything other than sleazy in the first place. It said something about my poor judgment. I usually think of myself as a pretty good judge of character and don't usually go in for what's "popular."

Funny, I always thought David Duchovny from The X-Files would be better off (or more admirable) if he acted more like the fictional character he played than his real-life self.

According to the book "Captured by Aliens" (a reporter's over view of America's obsession with UFO's and aliens) the two lead characters were the opposite of what they played on the XFiles.

Duchovny is a hard ass skeptic of woo woo stuff like aliens, while the actress who played his foil and partner is a New Ager and flying saucer believer. On screen they are the other way around: her character was all hard science and skepticism, and he had been traumatized by seeing his sister being abducted by aliens (or something like that) when he was a boy, and was a believer.

In contrast Duchovny's character in "Californication" is a writer, and is also a sex addict. IRL Duchovy has advanced degrees in literature, has published novels, and ...was in rehab for sex addiction.

So when I watch him on my Californication DVDs I kinda think of it as seeing the real Duchovny just being himself sans any acting. :D

That's cool.

But I wasn't referring to his beliefs. More about his mannerisms. I was talking more about his calm, inquisitive nature on the show vs. his real-life smug, douchebag-like behavior. But interesting nonetheless.
