The White House and Capitol building were on lockdown Tuesday after an unidentified aircraft entered restricted airspace, officials said.

It doesn't seem to be a big deal since only CNN has any coverage of it.

It is on the Fox News website.

Few details were available, but nobody was being allowed into the Capitol complex buildings, with officers warning people to stay away.

Law enforcement sources told Fox News the lockdown was triggered after an aircraft moving east violated restricted airspace.

Faux News does tend to exaggerate the severity of alleged threats to the government.  Besides, the lockdown had already been lifted before the President even knew what was going on.

But minutes later, the lockdown was lifted and both complexes were given the all-clear.

Fox News has learned that U.S. Capitol Police scrambled a helicopter, and the military scrambled fighter jets from Joint Base Andrews.

Law enforcement sources initially told Fox News the lockdown was triggered after an aircraft moving east violated restricted airspace. But Fox News is now told officials may have to go back and review the radar to determine what exactly prompted the scare, with sources saying they got "mixed signals at best" as to what the potential aircraft could have been.

One source said they were never sure whether an actual aircraft was ever involved, while another told Fox News that radar was showing "different sectors" as to where the threat was coming from. One source said whatever they saw may have just been an “anomaly” or even “geese.”

Capitol Police sent a notification of a potential threat shortly after 8:30 a.m. People were allowed back in after about 30 minutes.

Yes, that is one of the reasons that media source is referred to as "Faux News".

Washington DC wasn't on lockdown. Only the area around the Capitol was on lockdown.

Big difference!

Washington DC is 64 square miles; the area around the Capitol is probably less than 1 square mile.

A quick search of the Internet shows this lockdown was reported by CNN, the New York Times, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNBC, the Washington Post, the New York Post in addition to FOX News. Are you implying that all these news organizations are Faux New. Interesting?

The alarm was caused by a flock of birds that looked like a flying blob in the sky.

A bystander was quoted as saying "This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!  Old Testament, real wrath-of-God type stuff!  Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies!  Rivers and seas boiling!  Forty years of darkness!  Earthquakes and volcanoes!  The dead rising from the grave!  Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together -- mass hysteria!!"

The "Unidentified Aircraft" turned out to be a flock of birds.

Were they commie-mutant killer cyborg birds?

It's amazing how one fake headline by one uninformed news agency gets propagated throughout the Media.

You are technically correct. The entire city of Washington D.C. was not on lock down. But perhaps it is a little like splitting hairs. When the aircrafts flew into the World Trade Center on 9/11 and the Pentagon and also the terrorist targeted either the White House or Congress (but that plane crashed prior to reaching its intended target), how was that interpreted. The headlines from the New York Times on that day read "U.S. Attacked". Now all of America was not attacked, just the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, but from a different perspective all of America was attacked and even the farmer plowing his field in Indiana at the time understood this.

I titled this thread "Breaking News: Washington D.C. On Lock-Down".
That was not the title that Fox News used!
Their title was more like "Breaking News: White House and Capitol on lockdown".
So if there is a point of confusion it is on me and not on Fox News.
I take responsibility for that.

When I read Washington DC underlock-down I took that to mean the capital building et al. Not the entire city.

Washington DC is a city of 64 square miles. Whenever a headline says "Washington, DC on lockdown," I assume it is meant for the whole city.

They could have easily said "The Capitol area of Washington DC is under lockdown."

Just like if it is said that "New York City is on lockdown," I don't then assume that only the World Trade Center area is under lockdown. I would assume that the whole city is on lockdown---until I read the article.
