There is one thing that really niggles me, I have to say and that is when you find yourself in a public toilet and someone in the next cubicle is doing a number 2. I can never understand why people don't sort of do it in their own homes in the morning or when they get back from shopping... and of course, I then have to hurry up myself and get away before the smell reaches because I am very sensitive to such things.

It is one of my gripes... I do wish we had evolved in such a way that we didn't need to excrete in this way...

This should have been in my "seeing the person behind the grossness" thread! I live at the Y, and have never heard (or smelled) anyone doing #2... thank God! Well, maybe twice I heard it, and never smelled it. Many people will do #1 when others are in the bathroom though... you can hear it really loud and clear. One person did it so heavy that I would have thought she might be pouring the contents of a kettle into the toilet if I hadn't seen her walking in with nothing.

Living in a smallish apartment with other people forced me to learn how to be silent in the bathroom, lol.

Whenever I am stood waiting for the public bathroom and someone else is stood there and someone is in the toilet making noises, I start giggling and then the other person starts giggling. I mean, jeez, some people sit in there farting and I often comment loudly about how disgusting it is.

I remember once when I was on the phone to a friend a long time ago, I needed to pee and he wouldn't stop going on and on so I sat on the toilet, and stuffed lots of paper in so it might be silenced...but I couldn't go as I was so worried they would hear and ask what I was doing

I hate public restrooms! I hate when people don't flush, or when the mess goes all over the floor.

When you gotta go, you gotta go.

For a year I lived on a coed floor in my dorm. That was odd, since it was a shared bathroom, so you were doing your business next to girls doing their business. That was kind of gross. Like Carlos Mencia said, "I eat at that restaurant, I don't need to know anything that goes on down there."

Im really sensitive to bad smells in restrooms too, at college I have to leave the room pronto if there is even the slightest smell of a no. 2

That reminds me of a music festival I was at once. Someone came up with the bright idea to surround the male urinals with those portable toilets, this hid them out of sight i guess. The problem was that everytime I had to go pee I had to go into the centre of about 40 non flushing toilets... I only went in there the once, luckily my t-shirt worked as a gas mask but I was still gagging.

This used to bother me A LOT, but Ive learned to eventually just get over it. I would usually hear someone taking a piss, and depending on where I was, it echoed loudly into other rooms. It happened a lot when I was living in Washington too, and I just thought, oh, someone must be taking a leak then, whatever! =p

when I saw this thread title I was immediately reminded of an odd event that occurred while I was driving on a dirt road in the mountains. These two hikers had gotten the call of nature. The fellow went in the bushes to pee, but his girlfriend had heavier business to attend to, and right smack dab in the center of the road! When she heard my truck, which was about the same time she looked up and saw me seeing her, she pinched one off and scuttled off into the bushes with her pants half off. I was laughing so hard I almost drove over her "deposit"! My best friend was with me, and I thought he was going to have an "accident" himself, he was laughing so hard.
"Pinching One Off" became a catch phrase for us to refer to any embarrassing event one would like to escape from.
As for doing one's business in a public bathroom, I am not too bothered unless the person doing it smells so bad I think they might have a serious ailment.
I had a friend who could not urinate in a public urinal; he always went in a stall with the door shut.
I don't like to poop in public restrooms, but should I have to I am quick and quiet. If I think it will obnox someone else due to me having eaten something that has caused a bowel problem, I will find a bathroom that is more private.

I never use public restrooms at all usually, as im not out in piblic to often, other then used to go to bars on weekends, and of course, at work. I cant even piss when i know their is ppl around, unless an emergency. heh

Once my father said that he went into a bathroom and saw that someone had taken a crap in the urinal. I think that perhaps it was a foreigner who thought it was a Turkish toilet; some of those look a lot like urinals and some bathrooms in Turkey have both kinds of toilets so the person can choose which kind they want to use.
