NTs often have a 'medicalised' view of AS and so even if they appreciate that you are different they cant understand what we could gain from a meetup, or they might even see it as negative - when i told my dad i was planning to be more active in the aspie community he made a comparison to alcoholics hanging around with each other. I found this offensive, but its not really his fault as weve never really talked about it properly. He still sees AS as a weakness that needs to be fought, instead of adapted to iyswim.
It was just soo refreshing for me to have some aspie people to relate to.
The comparison with alcoholics is offensive and is offensive to alcoholics as well.
It is quite difficult to discuss our sensory and perceptual quirks with someone who does not experience them that means interacting with other spectrumites, something I really haven't done enough of.
