I love this one. It always springs to mind when I see that little security guard at Sainsbury's or whenever else I see someone who has to wear a big hat because he can't fight

But man, proud man,
Dress'd in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he's most assur'd—
His glassy essence—like an angry ape
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven
As makes the angels weep; who, with our spleens,
Would all themselves laugh mortal

I see your Isabell declaiming the vanity of man and raise you a Berowne flush with the vanities of love:

But Loue first learned in a Ladies eyes,
Liues not alone emured in the braine:
But with the motion of all elements,
Courses as swift as thought in euery power,
And giues to euery power a double power,
About their functions and their offices.
It addes a precious seeing to the eye:
A Louers eyes will gaze an Eagle blinde.
A Louers eare will heare the lowest sound,
When the suspicious head of theft is stopt.
Loues feeling is more soft and sensible,
Then are the tender hornes of Cockled Snayles...

(I really like that bit about snails. I would like you to know that I tore a page in my edition in my excitement when I grabbed it after seeing this thread.)

"Words, words, words!"

Not a quote but some might find this interesting and sort of close to the subject :)

wiki "today (8 dec)"
1660 – A woman (either Margaret Hughes or Anne Marshall) appears on an English public stage for the first time, in the role of Desdemona in a production of Shakespeare's play Othello.

(so the 'generally unknown trivia known by basically everyone' that all women were played by men was not always true)

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

I recognize some of those quotes but I don't know them in the original version, just in Polish, my native tongue.

My most favorite one is "Być albo nie być, oto jest pytanie" :D which means "To be or not to be, this is the question" :D

Sonnet 29 -

 When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,
 Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featur’d like him, like him with friends possess’d,
Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
 Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
 For thy sweet love remember’d such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

Sonnet 116 -

 Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
 O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
 Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
 If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Again, Dame Judi Dench -
