One of the dogs on my daughter's game has just died of old age. It was all very sweet - the Grim Reaper came and talked to the dog, then threw a stick up into the air for it; the dog followed it off the screen and was replaced by a memorial stone - but I had to pretend to be filling our (real) dogs' water bowl so she couldn't see my face...

I know I've been liable to attacks of the sniffles for next to nothing for a while now, but for a collection of pixels on a monitor?? What is the matter with me?!

Your emotions spiked when you didn't expect it. It sounds like something happened recently that you haven't dealt with to your own satisfaction. Can you think of anything?

Yeah, that's what I think it is for me sometimes.
I can start crying all too easily over a simple song, story, movie or just the thoughts in my head.

I wonder what makes this experience embarrassing for you? Just curious.

Is your daughter old enough that you could explain that sometimes images, sounds or events can trigger strong emotions, whether they are based upon some previous experience or just the thought of how sad something would be in real life?

Thanks, everyone.

Mysteryfan, I can't think of anything immediately, but that doesn't mean you're not right. I was on Citalopram for a while, which dampened my emotions right down, and I've been more easily moved to tears since I stopped taking it (although I usually have a bit more of a reason than a computer game!); I suppose it's possible it's all connected with my Dad's death. That was eight years ago, but I still miss him and find myself thinking about him unexpectedly and I guess there is unfinished business there - it's a long story.

wsmac, I don't know why it's embarrassing. I'm fine with my family showing their emotions in front of me, and they don't have a problem doing it, but somehow I can't bring myself to cry in front of them. I really don't know why.

I have a hard time crying in front of my family, as well. I guess that it must be a "British Thing". My sister, who takes after the French in my family tree has no trouble crying in front of the family. How could that be?

I'm not going to lie, that's completely ret*d.

Try playing Doom 3, F.E.A.R, Dead Rising, Bioshock, Halo, Call of Duty, etc... like seriously :?

May I ask what game it is? If it's any of the Sims2 games some characters can be resurrected.

It's Sims 2 with the Pets add on (I think - I'm not very technical!)
