I collected the paperbacks too. I read them over and over. I think it's part of how I got through childhood. My only comic relief.

Remember Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions????

So many Mad song parodies stick in my head. One day I met someone who started singing with me when I began a Mad song that I remembered so then we spend the next half hour singing Mad songs.

Those were so right on - they never missing a beat! I distinctly remember the Grease and Fiddler on the Roof (Antenna on the Roof?) parodies which were a riot!

My dad brought me loads of the books from second hand bookshops.. I'm so grateful for it. I have a whole book of snappy answers to stupid questions!

Spy vs. Spy was my favorite. The Spy vs. Spy Mountain Dew commercials that ran a few years ago were hilarious.

I met a guy who lived by Don Martin. He said that the first time he saw Don Martin was when Don Martin was in a tree drawing his comics. I was so impressed.

I remember in particular one article on international versions of nursery rhymes, with the French version of As I Was Going to St. Ives:

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives.
The seven wives, of course, weren't his, but here in France, that's how it is.

When I was in junior high, high school and early college, I read it regularly. Then it got really vulgar and unfunny and I stopped reading it.
