A few days ago, as I walked along the isle of frozen microwavable foods (As a student, I sometimes have to resort to that. ), I noticed that as I was looking, I was pointing. This was nothing new. Often, when I am concentrating hard on something, I point at it to guide my eye, but this was the first time that it occurred to me that this might not be normal. It helps my concentration. It's as if my mind is so prone to wandering that if I didn't steady my line of sight with my hand, my eyes would wander and forget what they're supposed to be looking at. 8O

Do any of you do this? Have you noticed other people doing this?
(I've seen some people do that while reading, but it makes sense to drag a finger on the page under what you read so that if you have to look away, you don't looze your place.)

*begin grammatical rant*

ARRGH! It's supposed to be "lose"! Lose their place! Not "loose"! The place in the book is not loose like a screw that you've unscrewed or something like that.

*end grammatical rant*

I don't really do this much at all, except sometimes when I'm shopping (coincidentally enough, tht's when you do it too).

I've always had the urge to do that, also particularly at the isle of frozen microwavable foods. :P I consciously stop myself since it's weird enough that it sometimes takes me forever to pick something out, and other times I go off empty-handed despite looking through everything for what seems like hours.

i quite often point at what i am looking at which confuses other people as they think i want them to look at something too. i also get confused between lose & loose. ah well

am the opposite, was told by autism speech therapist am have a problem with following/understanding gestures etc,as am would look at his finger when he stuck it out, when people say to am,pick that up-and have their finger stuck out,am have no idea what they are on about, they have to describe where it is instead or actually touch whatever it is.
have gotten a bit better with this, because some time ago,one of the staff said if could plug a plug in socket for her 'over there' whilst sticking her finger out,and am impulsively acted on where it was,but most of the time, there is no impulse and no understanding of why someone is sticking finger out, don't know why it happened once and not again.
