I'm not one to sit at the dinner table and say "Oh thank you lord for ... blaw blaw blaw", but if I was, I would thank God for the 2nd law of thermodynamics. I put a frozen eggroll in the microwave, and our microwave is TERRIBLE. There's ALWAYS a cold spot somewhere in the food. But thanks to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, thermal energy naturally flows from a hotter source to a colder one, so the heat from the rest of the egg roll flowed into the small cold spot, and warmed it, which made my eggroll tasty to eat. :)
(The second law goes on to say that you cannot convert ALL of the heat energy from a hot source into mechanical work. You must release some of that heat energy into a low-temperature thermal reservoir to make a functioning heat engine that produces work. It also states that you have to put work into a system to make thermal energy flow from a low source to a hot one. You can learn more by reading about the thermal engineer Sadie Carnot.)

Some people say that I'm not a spiritual person, but I really am. Do the people who go to church ever bother to thank God for the 2nd law of thermodynamics? I thought not. :P

Amen!

And I would also like to add a toast to mitochondria, for without them I would have to use photosynthesis, and green really isn't my color.

Screw the second law. It also says entropy increases, and never decreases. Yet I have never been able to use that as an excuse to let my room go untidy.

Good point. Come to think of it, if it weren't for the second law, perpetual motion machines would be a reality, and we could have free energy forever! Dam you God! :x

STFU DOOD! You're going to get god pissed at us for dissing his 2nd law. Then he'll smite us in some horrible way, in that holy loving way that he has with all of his deeply inbred children.

I should try that as an excuse for the state of my room.

It won't work, even with parents smart enough to understand the Second Law.

it is not the second law of thermodynamics it is the space invaders that do that

Ah, but if we used photosynthesis, we'd eliminate the issues of both world hunger and racism!

See, the problem is that the Second Law of Thermodynamics only applies to closed systems. If you didn't open the door to your room, the laws of thermodynamics could take proper effect! :)

I rather prefer the 0th Law of Thermodynamics. Mainly just because there is such a thing as the zeroth law.
