Ok...well I've been living in the same house for 11 years and my mother and I have still not construced a fire escape plan! I know...irresponsible of us.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has one and what it includes doing?

Also, are there any good websites that help you create fire escape plans? I want to make one but have no idea where to start. Our house is so complicated, so many windows, doors in weird places etc. Also, I have pets to include in the plan.

Step 1: Open window.
Step 2: Jump into bushes.

That's pretty much the plan.

I can't do that from the second story of my house where all there is below is concrete, unfortunately...

Get a trampoline to go under each window then. :3

We have fire plans here, but I'm in university halls, so they'd probably be sued or something if they didn't have them. We never had one at home after 19 years of living there, despite owning two fires, and having a chimney fire once. Why do you need one? If you have a front door and a back door and a fire alarm then that should be fine.

Fire can be trouble, but it's those giant spiders you really have to look out for.

For those without the luxury of having a blanket of bushes and a climbable tree near your window, here are a few resources I found to help you think of escape plans for your housing situation.

My room is at the front of the house (ground floor) and I have a key to the window. Easy.

I'm more worried about work! I work in a cash office and the safes can contain up to a hundred thousand pounds around christmas time. They always say that you don't stop to do anything if a fire alarm goes off, but surely I have to put everything back inside the safes and lock them up?

Whatever preconceived ideas you have may not occur in life. So definitely have more than one plan. The two main questions to ask are 1.Where are you? and 2.Where's the fire? while creating scenarios. And you have to realize that the actions you and your mother plan on taking and the actions you will actually take when the s**t hits the fan aren't necessarily going to be the same. So know that if/when this fire occurs you can really only rely on yourself.

You're going to need to know how fire acts and what to do. You should have had some firemen come to your school and tell you things like "if there's a fire in the hallway while you're in your room, block up the gap at the bottom of the door to keep smoke out, to give you time to say, tie some bedsheets together to climb out the window with". If you're able to go down the hall, you may want to bring some blankets with you to smother smaller fires or to shield your body in case you come across fire. You could always visit the local fire department and talk with them about protecting yourself in case of fire and coming up with a fire plan.

Anywho, to many variables for me to have a plan for them all. Basically my fire plan is to escape away from the fire. Once I have escaped, then I'll worry about my brother and my things.

I don't think we've ever had one here. One advantage I have, however, is that this house has two staircases, thus making it easier to escape.

(you are supposed to take it with you...)

At my job the only thing we have to do is lock the computer (windows+L) and then leave the room. There is no money around. Logical thing would be to lock it in the drawers under your desk? That takes almost no time. Taking it outside would probably bad and leaving it in the open?

At home I have no real plan, well extinguish it. I have a fire-alarm and emergency-lights.

Other thing would be the civil alarm. I have a paper in the cupboard in the hall with the steps you are supposed to take when the alarm goes.

i'd just designed my dream house and it has at least 5 fire exits. each bedroom has a hidden trapdoor which automatically opens itself when the alarm bell goes off. also there is a secret basement made of heat-proof concrete just in case it's too late and the house is going to collapse on ya. also remote-controlled is rungs, which will slot out of walls so that you can climb down. there are fire extinguishers everywhere. also, when the fire alarm goes, heat-proof glass wil slide over my books and computers to protect them.

i get really paranoid with these things  and i haven't started on the burglar alarms yet 8O
