That is how I feel right now. This is in random because I myself am NT.
I had a chat with my Damo and can't believe how different we are. He doesn't want friends, he told me that . He has insomia as well and has 'problems' getting to sleep. He doesn't look me in the eye.
I could go on but I won't. I just had to let out some of this, sad I guess you could say, feeling

I too am a NT mother. I have 3 sons (aged 9, 7 and 4) - the oldest two have Asperger's.

Everyone feels deflated and empty sometimes - NT or Aspie.

You need to accept that your son views the world differently to you. If he doesn't want friends, why is this a problem? (If he truly does want friends but can't make friends then that is different.)

Eye contact - what's the big deal with him not looking you in the eye? He doesn't derive meaning out of eye contact the way that you do. He's not insulting you by his lack of eye contact. It's just the way his brain is wired.

My 9 year old goes through periods of insomnia. We have trained him not to wake him up unless he is scared. Otherwise he reads a book or listens to music until he can get to sleep.

It's okay to have down days.

How old is he?

I go to taekwondo with my 9 year old and 4 year old so that's a common bond.

My 7 year old loves wrestle fights so that's how we bond.

Eventually you'll find a way to connect with him.

He is 5 and has very limited interests. BUT he does love tickling games and 'raspberries' on face and tummy. Kinda like 2 year old games. I don't mind tho because it gets him laughing and interacting with me.
