I found that my bathroom door was broken today. It looks like it's a piece of particle board on top of what looks like the original door (maybe a spacer or shim or something). That's coming off keeping the door from closing properly - it wouldn't close at all, actually which is why I wanted to fix it. And I thought, me being a good handyman, I'd replace the screws that were holding the hinges on the door. Turns out, they were a tad too wide and now the wood is cracked along the seam.

I have some liquid nails glue in that crack with a couple of c-clamps on it. I'll have to do the rest of the crack tonight or tomorrow when it cures because I only have two c-clamps.

Now, what to do about the shim on the front of the door? My guess is that I'll have to go to Lowe's and get a piece custom cut and bring it home, glue it, nail it and reassemble the door.

Suggestions, comments, complaints?

Doing it yourself/In a fix topic

I would have to see the door. If it is as bad as you say, you could even get a good second hand one cheap and just replace the whole thing.

I like DIY as well. Good for you. 8)

measure the door,
go look for places thats being demolished or rebuilt,
see if they have any doors thats left over or know of someone who has secondhand doors.
its been My experience that even though you fix the door when it gets that bad they still only
last maybe a couple more years tops then you have to replace them anyways.

turns out the friggin thing was built custom and they did a piss-poor job on it, too. See, normally doors are about 80" tall. This one's 72" tall and 29 3/4 inches wide. That's very unconventional.

I'm just gonna scrap the door and say f**k it and get a tension rod and a curtain for privacy.
