ever since i started working where I'm working now...i've noticed something that just bugs me...

we have a 'kitchen' here, a place to eat or meet and chat with other felllow workers...it has a working sink and various scented dish soaps....

yet, when someone needs to wash a glass... they head to the bathroom...

wtf??? 8O the bathroom?? it's so baffling to me that I never think to ask them, "would you do that at home?" (and then i forget to ask them sometimes)....

so what reasons can you come up with?

Maybe the sink is very new, and it isn't used very often, so no one wants to be the first one to mess it up by staining it or something like that. Also, sometimes people don't want to be the first to try something new when a group is doing something else. Or there might be something wrong with the sink.

Maybe they have to walk twenty feet more to get to the kitchen, and they don't want to waste their valuable energy.

I'd guess people do it that way because people have always done it that way and no one bothers to question it.

My advice to you is rather then confronting anyone, if you have something to wash off use the kitchen sink rather then the bathroom one, and maybe it'll catch on.

Lead by example; words do little more than irritate.

Because they're weird?

Just ask them why they do it.

I would be puzzled by that too. I would definitely ask about it, but I would do so in an indirect manner so as not to cause any offense (you never know what will offend people!). I might say, "Is there something wrong with the kitchen sink? I notice everyone uses the bathroom sink to wash dishes."
