A little game.

You can put in your own videos, text-based scenerios or pictures and ask spectrum or not spectrum.

So in your opinion, is this spelling champion on the spectrum?

My answer is, yes. Most likely an aspie.

Oh yes definitely on the spectrum, very literal, and my daughter answers questions that way as well!

The only thing I see is a kid who never learned to socialize with people outside of his parents.

Mage, this is the stereotypes that often come with homeschooling however it's obvious he's on the spectrum.

You can hear some of the snotty responses here. I especially like (sarcasm) the last one.

http://joannejacobs.com/2007/05/31/e-v-a-n/

"If he really is autistic that’s B.S. that he gets to compete in the spelling bee. Would you want to go up against Rain Man in a math competition? Totally unfair."

I'm noticing a trend. Public schools were once with the priority of education comes first. Now it's education comes second and if you aren't socially on par then to hell with you and your child.

So it's no wonder why those who play sports in some schools are allowed to fail their grades after the coaches tell the teachers to pass the student. This is what really matters now and what people are doing as a result is making social skills way more important than the latter so if you can play sports then you have an immunity.

If you can't play sports but you are great with your homework, it doesn't matter.

This kid can do several things well not just spelling. That is the result of good parenting. I sure don't hear about negative stereotypes against those who are great with social skills but horrible at geography, math etc..

Now people complain about being FAIR but only when it suits their stupid social agendas only. If you look on youtube for classical pianoists that are 4-5 years old you will see a bunch of whiney comments accusing parents of "abusing" their children however you never see that or hear that when it comes to sports.

Where is all this tolerance going?

on the subject of Evan O'Dorney

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/archive/i ... 40351.html

".....just wow......i would kill myself if i had a kid like that........"

"Can they do blood tests/amniocentesis/genetic testing prior to having the baby that can determine whether the child will have one of these diseases? If so, I would 100% use it so hopefully it wouldn't even be an issue"

"i wanna beat that kid up" (gee, wonder why he's homeschooled?)

I loved how his eyes lighted up with the new word.

Catspurr you sound like you are getting angry and bitter about discrimination. What's the point you can't change how people are and human nature.

Grizzle about it all you like you are never going to change how people biologically are. All you can really do is point it out to them when it happens.

Well I think it's presumptuous of people to try and diagnose others from 3 minute clips. It takes professionals hours of tests and interviews to make a diagnosis.

So I'm just going to go the easy way and post a youtube of Amanda Baggs. She makes pretty music.

It's obvious.

Here's another one with more about him. I also think it's rude to pre-judge that his lack of understanding social cues is all because he's homeschooled. It seems to me that people think now that public schooling is all about learning social skills when once apon a time, there was more focus on actually learning something and when someone is not getting treated well in school and the person wants to learn something, then public school isn't for everyone.

Then people make these snide comments claiming the person wants special treatment when I didn't know that being treated with the same amount of respect is really all that special and if anything there are people who get leniency on grades all because they are athletes.

It's rather sad that people now call extremely smart people "ret*ds" because they have a social deficit. It's even more curious as to why people who supposedly have the same deficits too pick on someone like Evan or makes the same judgemental responses.
