As some of you may know, I went to the doctor's for the very first time by myself yesterday (w00t!) to get a sore under my arm checked out. While I was there, he also noticed how thin I am and he also thinks I have Iron Deficency (I hate spelling that word) Anemia. So he also drew some blood from me and that's being tested. And he wrote up a perscription for me with capsuls with iron in them. Anyway, so I apparently have some sort of very infected cyst growing in my right armpit and I'm going to the hospital tomorrow morning with my mom to see if I need it removed or not. If it does have to be removed, it would be done tomorrow. I've actually had it since last spring/summer, but it only bothered me when shaving. But recently, it's grown a lot and it really hurts to even move my arm even a bit now because of it. Oh, and according to my doctor, I'm apparently "as pale as a vampire". Well, I am part Danish and I haven't gotten to start tanning yet...

So anyway, I am a bit nervous about tomorrow. I've been to that hospital twice for passing out, but never for surgery or anything. I've never had surgery before.

Best of luck. Just be sure to tell the surgeon if it hurts. I've had several skin cancers cut off my face, and sometimes they skimp on the anasthesia. It'll probably be awhile before moving your arm doesn't hurt.

Thanks, everyone! I just hope it isn't going to be too painful if I have to go through with it. By the looks of the size of it and especially compared to how small I am, it looks like I'm gonna have to. Hopefully it won't hurt too much!

Wow, I just had surgery myself yesterday to get my wisdom teeth removed. Trust me, once they give you that stuff to knock you out, you will enjoy yourself in the few seconds of consciousness you have. After you wake up you won't remember much of anything. Yesterday was a dream to me.

One thing to look forward to is being waited on hand and foot. All surgery is scary before it actually happens but you'll be asleep through the worst of it. Hope that helps. :)

Well, at least that part's a relief. The cyst was feeling a bit better this morning, but by the time the afternoon rolled around, it was back to being painful again. But that still didn't stop me from having a great time with my little cousins, whom I hadn't seen in three months. Jessica (one of them) felt really bad for me and wanted me to have one of her toys. She's very compassionate. :)

Thanks for the reasurrance. Like I said, this is all new to me, so I'm totally nervous about it. I'm feeling a bit better about it now though. :)

Is this surgery or a procedure? There's a difference. Surgery is going under anesthesia. A procedure is going under the knife in the doctor's office with a local anesthetic. They just cut out or drain what's wrong. I suspect they'll just drain it.

Given that you have an iron deficiency, I'm guessing you're a female. It's a quick blood test to determine your iron levels. The results are generally phoned to you - they're not immediate.

Well, as it turns out, I don't have Iron Defeciency Anemia after all. They called my mom earlier with the results, and I'm happy about that. The doctor said it "was much to his surprise". But as for tomorrow, I have no idea what is going to happen. Like I said, I've never been in this situation before. But I'll definitely post about what happens!

Thanks! I'm leaving in an hour and a half. I'm so nervous!

Unfortunately, the cyst did not just magically disappear overnight. It looks more inflamed if anything... *sigh*
