Cool. 8) I wish there were gems like that, native to my area. I believe I would become a full-blooded rock hound. :chin: :)

well laddy when you grow up and if people are continued to be snobs about gem quality fire agate you might be able to buy one! and did i mention they are worth it? theres only 3 places in the world you can get them. caifornia, arizona and mexico. and the mine at deer creek is starting to loose its color in most cases although some of the miners say they can still go out after a rain storm to find some good stuff. the mine on the apache indian reservation is only allowed to be mined by natives. so who really knows how long that guy will last, the mine in california produes some medium to good stuff but not the famous stuff from arizona. mexico im not really shure, some tell me the mine is healthy others say it isnt

i wouldnt roll the dice with this if you can get one now by all means do!

and if so, how big is that?

i dont think there is. however i dont know, fire agate usually only forms in layers and in nodules incrusted in chalcedoney. ive seen a vien of fire agate maybe about the size of both your hands put together, but the gem usually only occupies a small percentage of the stone. agate can get pretty big im shure but gem quality material is usually small
