I knew it had to be a joke, because I used to chain-smoke, and only managed a little over 3 packs a day. 5 packs a day could definitely be accomplished, but it would have to done specifically to record high numbers. :chin:

How could anyone even afford 5 packs a day?

Yeah, one of my best friends chain-smokes and I reckon 3 packs in 1 day would be unusual (though not necessarily unheard-of) even for him - usually it's more like just over 2 packs (45 - 50 cigarettes). He smokes several cigarettes per hour, at least.

He also usually wakes up during the middle of the night, has a smoke, and then falls asleep again. Not being able to sleep through the night without waking up for a smoke . . . now that's nicotine addiction.

^If you are still capable of feeling buzzed from cigarettes(at any quantity), get out while you can. Seriously, you are not too far into the addiction yet, and quitting now wouldn't be too difficult. It becomes almost impossible to quit as you get older. I am not trying to sound like some preacher either, I am just speaking from experience, and am trying to help. It would be the best decision that you ever made. :)

Supposedly Jackie Gleason smoked five packs a day. His doctor told him he had to cut down, so he made it three packs a day. He must have reeked ! !

He also got by with four or five hours of sleep, because he didn't want to miss
out on the partying ! !

I would immediately DIE from smoking 5 packs in one day.

Still in the process, and yes, it is terrible.

My Mum used to smoke 5 packs a day. No joke. She tried to quit more times than I could count. As soon as she had my sister (10 years younger than me) she quit cold turkey. The withdrawal was awful, but even now, 24 years later, she doesn't say she's a "non-smoker", she just says she "doesn't smoke anymore." It's a mind thing. When she finally kicked the habit, she would eat carrots instead of smoking but all of the carotene caused her skin to turn orange. but hey, it worked. She's still smoke free. :)

Warning: Quitting smoking now in no way increases your chances of not dying. Live this moment, the future is pure speculation - you may get hit by a bus after lunch.

I can go through about a pack a night in three hours, as I chain-smoke and drink myself to sleep (but i don't smoke cigarettes at any other time, ever). I suppose you could go through five packs a day, but I'm not sure how you'd get anything else done, other than perhaps watching way too much television. Now there's a health hazard.
