Ha, I just emailed that to my mother.

I don't know enough to assess whether they especially pertain to women, I think there must be a very fine line indeed between them, but many of those completely fit me. I think I've seen it before.

This is my problem with that list. Not only a fair majority don't especially pertain to women with AS, a fair number don't necessarily pertain to people with AS male or female, given how they are worded and lack more specifically. It's nice to read through to get clued in on things you may not be very aware of about yourself, but as far as using to distinguish being a woman with AS, I find it pretty useless.

I think there are difference, but mostly secondary differences that derive from living in a society that treats girls quite differently than boys. For example my brother, when he exhibited autistic traits, they got him tested, said he was special, maybe needed more support in school, etc. etc. Me? I was treated like I was just being difficult and silly, and that I needed to be shamed and put in my place for not acting like other girls. My brother had "depression"; I was an "unpleasant" and "boring' girl who didn't smile enough for other people's liking. That disparity in acceptance and just acknowledgement of one's differences is going to leave its mark, It certainly did with my brother and myself. I'm far more self-reliant and independent, have much more in the way of social skills development and coping skills, and a hell of lot angrier. Brother's just a big narcissist baby, even though he's well into his 40's.

Wow, very accurate in my case too.

The only one I was confused on was about having a close friend when younger but not as an adult... I have generally closer interactions with people as a young adult, and I thought this would make sense due to gradual learning.

The tests I took online seemed to say I was probably an Aspie but I questioned the validity of the assessment. However, if all that chart says is true, than they might as well have a picture of my face next to the chart.

I read the list again and discovered that most women I ever got along with (and they are so very few) fit the bill.

I had a read of that and thought "Yea, most of those apply, some in particular are very accurate". Then I gave it to my boyfriend and a close colleague and they both said "yep, except for two, that is you to a T".

Wow. I still have some doubts as to whether I might have AS, but that list is pretty much like the story of my life. There are a few parts that are off, but it certainly does make me wonder.

I don't know how accurate it is to women with AS (in general), but it's fairly accurate to me (and I am about 99% sure I have AS).

Interesting.

I found a lump in my throat reading this chart, so I printed it and went and put checkmarks on traits that truly describe me. I have 5 unchecked!

I am very interested in ongoing research in how women manifest as opposed to males. There seems to be, by all accounts, better coping mechanisms when it comes to social situations, but not necessariliy. . . less PAIN.

Eerily accurate. I've only been 'tentatively diagnosed', though. Maybe I should take this into my next therapy session...

All of those traits apply to me in the present, are likely to apply in the future, or have strongly applied in the recent past, with the exception of the following:

Appearance/Personal Habits: 4, 7
Intelligence/Education/Giftedness/Vocation: 3, 4, 9, 11 (I am quite the railfan :P )
Emotional/Physical: 6, 7
Social/Relationships: 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12

Ok, so most of those fit me. Especially the one about self identity. And stimming. The ones that show outward expressiveness don't fit me though, because I just shut down when I feel like doing something that would be considered "inappropriate" by NT's.

I finally got off my Blackberry and onto a real computer so I could see the chart.

Wow. A few either don't describe me or might describe me. The overwhelming majority: this is me. So maybe I am an Aspie (self-diagnosed :? ). I tend to be cautious and stick to my NVLD diagnosis and self-diagnosis of schizoid (not in a bad way).

But, wow. Most of this is my life. Me.

Thanks for this. Must think. Think. Think.

Awww! And here I thought I was special! *sniff*

But on the other hand, it's always nice to know that I'm not alone!

Flavenstein, I have pretty much the same reaction! It's so weird seeing a list of all the things you thought only you did, pretty much my every idiosyncrasy, applicable to a whole group of people it turns out are like you!
