It was every bit as painful as I originally anticipated!! !
The insertion of the speculum combined with the OBGYN moving the vagina around was the worst part while the actual collecting of samples from the cervix wasn't that bad!

I had a bad experience with smear tests too. Nothing will go in. When I went to my first one I wasn't feeling nervous at all because I didn't expect it to hurt, so I was relaxed, but it hurt like anything when the thing was inserted and we had to terminate the smear test because I said it was too painful.
I went a few more times to try with different methods suggested to me by the doctor, but with the same results as the first time. It hurt so much, it felt all stingy and like a pineapple was being shoved violently up there ripping me in two. That was how bad the pain was. It couldn't be ignored or tolerated. It really couldn't.
So now I just ignore any letters inviting me for a smear test, because I know it'll just be a waste of time. I have a very low pain tolerance.
I just have to hope and pray that I don't get cervical cancer. Hopefully I won't, because I've only really ever had sex twice in my life, and it was safe sex as well. I heard the less sex you have the less likely you are to get cervical cancer. I don't know how true that is but I'm hoping it's true, for peace of mind.

Speculum insertion is by FAR THE WORST PART of the Pap smear test!! !
That's what hurt
I believe I may have actually just experienced the infamous "Ring of Fire" in childbirth!! !! !!
The collecting & swabbing of the cervix was the easy part and 100% painless but it was strange sensation...
EDIT: Also, the OBGYN said my hymen was intact despite having penetrative sex?
How is that possible?!?

Hmm...could the intact hymen be the root cause of my pain...
