I had an epi both times. It took some convincing the first time, though. I was terrified the anesthesiologist would f**k up my back because of my scoliosis.

Turns out I wasn't too far off. After the second time, my back hasn't been the same. It was put in crooked and I was only numb on one side. Now I get a stinging pain right where the epi needle was.

That sucks. :(

Yep. It really wasn't worth it, either. Feeling my son come out was actually quite beautiful and now I wish I had told them no to the epi.

Aww, that's sweet. Kinda gross but sweet. XD

It's only gross to someone that hasn't given birth. It may be painful, but the experience is unique.

That's probably true. I know that I can't watch those shows where they show women giving birth. I know it's a miracle but I don't wanna look at it. Luckily, since I'll be on the other side, I won't get the angle that the doctors get. XD

Of course, I wasn't one of those women that screamed and cursed. I just sat there and cried. lol

My mom didn't take any epidurals while birthing my brother and I naturally. I hope I'll be able to do that too. Granted, my dad was dumb enough to let her hold his writing hand, she almost broke it.

i screamed and cried. 45 hours labour at home with a midwife. the neighbours sent an ambulance, which i refused.

she held up a mirror, which i could not look at. it did gross me out. couldn't even touch my girl's head as she came out.

speaking of increased size though - i was a AA pre-baby, when i was young and thin. now i am a small C. funny, but as i lose weight, i have not been losing the boobage!

At 100lbs, I had a C cup. They didn't get much bigger when I got up to 210lbs. Then I lost 30lbs and suddenly realized they got bigger.

Yeah... that's when I knew I was pregnant. lol

There are many reasons not to give birth in a hospital.

Yeah, they go up almost a full cup size every month. Massaging doesn't help.

No. I can talk about the downside of hospital birth in another thread if you would like. It's a very complicated issue that is mostly ignored.

I would like that. I'm not facing the decision now but I'd like to be down the road. :D

well, this was 16 years ago, so maybe things are better now. but back then, i had this idea that childbirth was treated like a medical emergency.

you had to stay in a lying position, with these straps across your belly to monitor the baby. and you could not eat or drink. you were shaved in the pubic area. you were cut to prevent tearing in the perineum (it's cleaner, but not everyone rips so it was not always necessary). the doctors and nurses didn't really stay with you, and you could only have one person in the room with you. birthing centres were still pretty new in my city, so it was usually just a cold hospital room. there was always a sense that the doctors would pucsh the drugs, and push the c-sections.

instead i was eating spring rolls and drinking ginger ale, with my entire family all around. i alternated between using a birthing stool and a bathtub. i could lean back into my husband's arms when it really hurt (i cracked my tailbone, like so many women do). the midwife (and her 2 colleagues, who helped when it got crazy) checked my daughter's heartbeat at certain intervals. i was at home, where i was comfortable.

but i could give you all the reasons in the world, and the truth is, i was afraid of hospitals.

That doesn't sound pleasant at all. I'm starting to wish that adoption wasn't so expensive. D:

When one cracks their tailbone, is there a way to fix it without surgery? D:

i believe the tailbone is hinged to move out of the way during birth. if a baby is big, you can haven bruising or fracturing. my butt around the coccyx is permanently numb, and for years it hurt to sit for too long. but mostly it resolves on its own.

That's good to know. My mom busted her tailbone on a ride at an amusement park last year and it still hurts for her to sit for a long period of time. D:
