I wasn't smart enough to bandy wits with them, but my steel-toed shoes did floor one of them once.

I was the shortest and klutziest kid with no social skills which led to believe that it was illogical to fight multiple taller people at the same time because not only would I would lose badly but that would only result in a worse beating in retaliation. What I did not understand is while I certainly would have taken fierce and fiercer beatings at first, eventually the other kids would have respected me and eventually side with me and the bullies would grow frustrated and quit.

Sometimes kicking the bullies ass is the best way to handle a bulley or set up a trap and have the bully ambushed and jumped! Ignoring a bully doesnt work and will encourage the bully to bully you more!

I don't happen to think this is so "off topic" at all.

Being bullied is probably one of the primary reasons why men feel "vulnerable." Being a bully frequently serves to hide (the bully's) vulnerability.

OK, I get what you're saying. But the OP was more about addressing it on a mass scale rather than individually.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion though that it's an issue that's nearly impossible to be resolved. I just don't see some men giving up their macho side, and the men alongside who wouldn't still suffer for it. I mean, there will always be bullies. I guess it means mens' and womens' roles need to change. A big shift in attitude. But who would start it?

I believe we've actually made considerable progress in gender relations, and the alleviation of gender stereotypes, over the past 30 years or so.

Obviously, much more work needs to be done. There's still a lot of crap still going on.

But I have noticed a discernible change--probably even more noticeable within "educated" circles.

I, myself, do not want to see total "neutralization" of genders. I like "feminine" characteristics in women (though not overly so, and not stereotypically so). I don't think I could respond sexually to a woman who really looks "neutral."

I think it had to us being distracted with the issues of bullying! But for male vulnerability I suppose it does have to be addressed I am a male I have vulnurabilities regardless of the denials but society expects me and others to stay strong otherwise we are seen as weak and disrespected by females no female would want to be with a weak man at all! Any weakness in a a male is seen as unfit for a female that is what it is!The thing is any male showing any vulnerability of any kind is not fit for any woman any woman who sees that laughs at it and discards it as garbage to ensure strong genes are passed on!

a brain dropping from me- mebbe us mild and meek omega males fulfill some important function in society, otherwise in a Darwinian sense we and our genes would have been de-selected out of existence ages ago.

The Omega Male is not so hung up on appearing tough. Instead, they are hung up on achieving success in other ways other than the method of "appearing tough."

Im not sure if we can change nature, we were naturally designed for different tasks, a woman cannot get a man pregnant we are not sea horses we cannot change sexual dimorphism either. Males are meant to be tough and such and take a beating in order to be a fit mate for the female he is to be tough to defend the mate from other males. In nature the female selects the male with the strongest genes, usually its the biggest baddest strongest male out there also known as the alpha male.

Meek and mild men FTW!
