does anyone here walk in high heels?
I find pointy toed shoes give the illusion of high heels. I don't know why but they do.
I like the idea of high heels but not the actual wearing of them (for me, pain and balance issues with the taller ones, the lower ones keep flying off my feet). I do have a pair of platform boots that are really comfortable but totally out of fasion.
tips for high heel walking- get a stable heel with a square heel and a rounded toe box, not pointy. Get a platform type will give an even more stable base. Start out with something like chunky heeled boots with solid ankle support, don't try starting with stilletos! High heels aren't a good day to day shoe but won't hurt in small doses if you don't fall and kill yourslef, ha ha. Practice indoors for awhile. Work your way up to wearing them long enough to have a short outing without a lot of discomfort. Get used to new heels at home each time you buy a new pair graduate to a pointer pair on the heel and toe if you are interested in more of a dressy/ strappy shoe. I sometimes wear high heels around the house just to keep my legs/ butt toned and use different muscles. This is a luxery I can afford since I work at home and can wear things for a short amt of time. I used to wear heels all day at work but wouldn't now if I worked outside the home.
This thread caught my eye b/c I wore heeled boots to shop in today and realized a few hrs later it was a dumb idea as I haven't worn the boots since last winter and I have to "get used to them" all over again each season, lol, Ididn't do my home wearing first long enough, I guess.
Good luck, every girl should get the fun of dressing up in fun costume and heels and doing the whole sexy, girly, pretty thing sometimes if they want to. It is something simply for amusement and shouldn't be undertaken b/c of trying to fullifill a pre-set standard of femininity. Have fun and be safe on those first wobbly heels!
am i the ONLY one who finds high heels comfortable??
honestly i can't stand FLAT shoes. AT ALL. my feet hurt like hell when i wear them for a longer time, and it feels really weird and uncomfortable. i try to walk at my toes, but it still is so eww. i don't even have any right now. i have no clue how i could stand it when i was a kid. (but i remember really looking forward to wearing hgh heeled shoes, so i guess i was the same
")
if anyone wonders, i just don't wear shoes at home.
Most of them are too narrow for the front of my foot, and when I wear them, the blood seems to rush to my toes, causeing them to swell up..lose circulation...etc..

I had a pair of high heeled shoes that were comfortable enough to wear most of the day. They were fairly high, but the sole also was a bit raised, and very well cushioned. Other than that one pair, I've never had any that were comfortable.
My problem with lady's dress shoes is not so much the heel, but the pointy toes. I refuse to wear any shoe that requires me to scrunch my toes together. Nowadays, there are so many good looking shoes that are a comfortable, that we have more options. When I was in my early 20's, with hardly any money, and two shoe stores to choose from, if I wanted to wear a dress, the only option was painful shoes. That's why I wore jeans all the time, because at least it was socially acceptable to wear comfortable shoes with jeans.
It's a rare thing for me to wear high heels, since I have to wear slip-resistant shoes for work and I prefer comfortable shoes anyway. The only time I wear heels is for formal or semi-formal events when I have to dress up. I've worn them for job interviews as well as some job fairs, but not if I know I have a long walk to the fair from where I parked. Most of the time, I wear comfortable shoes even when I'm not working.

I am very short, and I don't mind a little elevation once in a while so I don't look completely gnomish--
I have owned a few interesting pairs of shoes with clunky elevated heels that are cushioned like tennis shoes.
That is the best I can do.
I have this giant pair...I have no idea what size they are, but I bought them and spray painted them for a clown costume...I think they add 2 inches to my height.
They have become my regular "performance" shoes. I am amazed at how comfortable they are even though they are not completely flat..or some fancy brand that doesn't tear up my delicate finicky feet(Crocs-Birkenstocks-Dansko)...and I am sure they are technically 3 sizes too big...but I survived a 2-day festival in them, and I am still able to walk....
there they are...the different colored ones....
I guess the true secret to shoe comfort is shock absorbtion and proper width.

I love them...No, I can't walk in all of them...many don't fit my feet right...and I have to have comfortable shoes, but there have actually been a couple that are so comfortable that I'd rather wear them rather than even flat sandals...You have to try out many of them...and when they fit right, you walk right.
Had a pair of what my hubby calls "CFM" shoes...hehe...and they were amazingly comfortable...but again, I find many don't fit right...
I can't imagine what I'd wear with a nice dress or to go party if I didn't wear heels...hmmm

You posted a video of you performing in those shoes, and I thought, "Cool, she's got great big feet like I do!" I should have known they were "clown shoes". I'm pretty sure my feet really look like that. I'm just under 5'3" and wear a U.S. size 9. When my oldest son was little, I used to take him to a tumbling class, and all of us moms had to take off our shoes and line them up against the wall. There were always all these dainty little shoes, and then mine, looking like man shoes. Mine were always noticeably bigger than any of the others, even though most women are taller than me.
I found these really wonderful boots online, but apparently, since they run small, my giant feet are too big for them. How a person can be 5'3" and not be able to fit the biggest shoe size is beyond me. http://clockworkcouture.com/sites/defau ... sbrown.gif
I love high heels. I wear thongs most of the time however, or other flat or only very slightly raised shoes.
High heels can take effort yet can be done. To walk slightly upright can take more energy and sometimes you may take smaller steps. One other poster said she can even run in high heels when they're comfortable and I'm like that too. I think heels require a smooth stride and that can make them easy to walk in. If you don't like doing that then you probably won't like heels.
Personally I think it's really important to have them fit right. Some high heels will fit your foot (naturally, I guess, depending on their design) and you may well get to know which ones are going to fit and which ones aren't.
Sometimes more expensive shoes are made better, with more supportive materials and better support in the design of the shoe. These kind of shoes are usually more comfortable.
I have a somewhat broad foot and I have to watch the toe area. Any shoe will squash my toes if it's not designed to be broad enough there. This can eventually deform feet after years and years so it is important - even if it didn't hurt (which usually it would) or you ignored the pain it isn't good.
I've thought about it and I think often high heels aren't really meant to be worn for long periods of time. They're often for formal occasions that go for a few hours at night. It is possible though, to wear for longer periods if you're going to be sitting a lot.
Secretly, I also take shoes home and wear them around the house for a little bit so I can feel comfortable and get the hang of them (and practice walking in them if I need to).
So, if you're curious, shop around and try on shoes until you can tell honestly when you walk around how they fit and get a good idea of how they're going to feel wearing them.
And, of course, how they look. ![]()

Elderwanda, you are like a hobbit.
My shoe size is a UK 6 (a US 8 1/2), but I'm around 5'6" tall.
