I often have an urge to scratch my head during conversation.

Does anyone rub or pat their belly? While rubbing or scratching their head?

I don't either, but somehow it seemed germaine.

Would it help divert this stim if we started a jug band?

I never know what to do with my hands, either, so I generally keep them in my front pockets. My dad, ex military, thought that was an unpardonable sin. Looked like a slob. So i clasped them behind my back and paced. That looked like Groucho.

I like to rub or scratch my head lightly as I'm falling asleep at night. That's the only stimming I do, if you could call it that.

Our son (now 9) has gone through at least two phases where he would rub his head, presumably when he was stressed or thinking really hard. I was afraid he was going to rub all the hair off in that spot (just at the hairline, in the center of his forehead).

He seems to have stopped doing it, for now at least. We haven't seen him do this in months, but we're prepared that it may return.

My father tells me to stop doing it because it looks like I'm playing with my hair. I do it constantly and have yet learned to stop. :?

Yes. Often. Mixed with pushing hair around, running hands through hair, twiddling and pulling, and arranging etc, I will rub and scratch and fiddle with my head/scalp.

:study:

I do the same thing when I'm tired or about to fall asleep. My favorite spot is right around my hairline on my forehead.

I don't rub my head, but I had a stim in late elementary school where I'd scratch up all the dandruff around my hairline. Talk about instant bullying. Ever since then I'm always paranoid when I scratch my head.
