Can anyone tell me what the diagnosing is like in the uk, has anyone been through the process? I would imagine a few sessions, maybe 3-4 with a psych?

In the US too, if anybody knows. Also, is it very expensive? I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it.

Hah, you'll be lucky to get ONE session. Have fun waiting for three years to be seen for even a preliminary session.

(Me? Bitter? Noooooo.... *sarcasm*)

Most psychiatrists don't know a lot/enough about Aspergers, mine told me I couldn't be on the spectrum because I was nothing like Rain Man. It was my Psychologist that picked it up.
For an accurate assessment you need to find a Autism Specialist, my psychologist got permission from my psych and then got in touch with a place associated with the National Autistic Society.

I had a single one hour assessment for her to make sure that further assessment was necessary, after deciding it was she has said that the assesment is going to be 5-6 sessions long. However it seems that assessments can be anything from one session to a lot lot more.

Cheers craola, I did request a psych who is a specialist in Autism, I should be seeing someone in the next 2-3 weeks they said. I suppose i'll just have to explain it to them and all my quirks/foibles or get a second opinion!

It's free in the uk!

Do insist on a longer assessment, you can be diagnosed in one session by just saying the right thing but if I had been diagnosed by my first session I really would not have been happy because I don't feel I said things said properly.
Good luck :)

Ok, thank you for that. :D

Hopefully I will be seen with 2-3 weeks! Only thing might be that it is a clinic in the neighbourhood, but then again that is where people go for their injections etc and I spoke to a psych down there about my schizo brother!

You want to hear of diagnoses do you? Well, gather 'round children and let me tell you a tale...

I was diagnosed in cambridge at CLASS, a simple referral from my gp was all it took. They said it would cost me £1000, but I gave them a look of cold disdain and with the power of my mighty gaze the primary care trust sprang?..sprung?...sprought..? :? forth and err, well they appeared and funded the thing for me anyway.

Then I went for a single session, sat in a room for a few hours with a woman and told her heartwarming tales of my noble adventures. Or to put it more accurately I sat nervously, struggling to keep even a second of eye contact going at a time and trying my hardest not to break wind in the small, stuffy room potentially causing the session to be postponed while my caustic release dissipates. Luckily, I held it in all with great success! After about 4 hours, I think...a conclusion was undoubtedly arrived at and I was deemed a fully fledged citizen of Aspergia. Huzzah!

Thus concludes my epic tale of blah blah blah. The end. Refreshments are available for purchase in the lobby. Remember to redeem your ticket stubs at the ticket booth for a free...something. Thank you and goodnight.

*applause*

Toby, you should phone them to find out what's happening, my doc, who I have ever seen before said if I don't hear anything after three weeks to phone!

I also took my sister, but she was annoying me, both her and the doc were saying that they have some of these foibles, but I have the whole lot!

Had you released "a most fowle odour" your tale would have been funnier. Next time try to think of others besides yourself and the Doctor.
