In ten years... it's an either/or:

Either we will have conquered the problems of class, poverty, and global warming...

Or we'll have a huge mess on our hands.

Unfortunately I see the short term as somewhat unstable and rough. It will take towards the end of the century for Man to get his s**t together.

Driving a biodesiel or lp car is a great thought, but I think it's a little late for that. We need NEW tech, not revisions of old tech. Rebuilding New Orleans is a project that, imho, should be carefully undertaken and involve either moving the city inland or raising the level of the land under it. Rising sea levels and stronger storms? Most of mankind lives on the coastal plains...

Hate to be a pessimist but I think in 10 years we'll be trying to save all our butts.

OTOH, there is much in scientific research that may lead one to the conclusion we are on the verge of possibly saving our own butts!

Only thing I AM certain of, it's an interesting time to be alive. But I can't remember trying any other times, so who am I to judge?

I fully expect massivechanges ranging from the personal to a global scale and I don't expect any of them to be for the better. I wouldn't be the least bit suprised to find that the world becomes a post-appocalyptic wasteland or the 1984-style autocracy of RobertN's dreams ten years from now. Hell, it might even be a little of both!

I know people who've done this. It is a HUGE pain in the rear. I'd try LPG or Propane.

It's way easier than LPG/Propane. Biodiesel requires changing at most some hoses and seals. LPG requires new fuel injectors and a high pressure gas containment system - it's pretty much necessary to have a dealer do it. However, biodiesel can have problems with fuel gelling in cold weather that have to be solved using either heaters or a two-tank system with a more complex heated tank for the SVO (straight vegetable oil) or biodiesel.

I can't really come up with any realistic 10-year predictions, unfortunately.

Nanoswarms will eat the world and we all die. Mars will become Humanity's new homeworld. They will be weak and nearly defenseless. Ripe for assimilation.

One question that I sometimes ponder is 'How different will the map of North America be 10, 20 and 50 years from now?'.

Any thoughts?

Mike

instead of regular eggs,we will go to the market to pick up a dozen Hover-eggs!

when you drop them they stop and hover 1 inch above the ground...then explode for some reason(they'll not yet be perfected)

In ten years I hope to be ten years wiser than I am now. In ten years from now I will be grayer for sure. I will be 52 then too.

Well, not to point out the obvious or anything, but in ten years, we'll all be older than we are now. I hope WP is still around then. :D

A dystopian nightmare reminiscent of '1984' 'Soylent Green' or '28 days later' (minus the zombies)

In 10 years we'll finally be free of the M$ monopoly.....or not.

In 10 years, we'll have quantum computers possibly? Those would sure be useful... but I'm not sure if the technology would be mass producable by then.

In 10 years I'll hopefully be out of grad school (or else jsut finishing up) and on my way to a happy career.
